Much as I like the works of Roald Dahl ... the "cute" idea that Charlie (Charlie and the chocolate factory) has more chance because he "wants it more" in reality is nonsense. I "hope" to win the lottery ... but no amount of "hope" will change the odds. "Wanting it more" ... "hoping" there is an afterlife - does not alter the outcome. But again, this "debate" always hits the dead-end of: no-one can prove it or disprove it. Around we go again ... and again ... and again. ..."Realistic" about the end of life, hubris man? You seem to be overly critical about my conclusions, while yours, and your ilk are wrought with their own set of presumptions. Yet it's alleged that I'm the only one arguing in circles. Might I also suggest that asserting there is no afterlife does not alter the outcome either... . So we are at an impasse, and we can agree that slartibartfast originated this assertion based on a statement he could never hope to prove. |

Actually, I didn't mention that Atheists despair the non-existence of afterlife, I merely said they despair.
Will your atheist friends and family will not despair your loss, assuming they will never see you again? For the Theist, that separation is only temporal.
You do not despair for the end of your life? A theists hope is that they continue living...etc

Just because a corner in a circle can't be perceived doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Graphic circles have corners. Everything appearing on your computer or phone has corners, you just can't see them. To prove my assertion all I'd need to do to fill that requirement would be to stand at the edge of the circle... any edge, actually. But..Earl has already asserted that actual circles exist in concept only, ergo... I suppose you'll just have to imagine me in one. :rolleyes: |
