The Sea Shepherd extends battlefieldBy NEIL REID - Fairfax NZ News | 5:00AM - Sunday, 28 October 2012WHALING PROTEST: Japanese whaling fleet vessel Yushin Maru No. 3 sprays water cannons at Sea Shepherd activists in a dinghy boat during a clashes in the Southern Ocean in 2011 (left). Sea Shepherd leader Paul Watson (right). — Both photographs: Reuters.THE environmental group Sea Shepherd is set to launch Operation Zero Tolerance, which will put four ships, a helicopter, three drones and more than 100 international volunteers on a collision course with Japan's whaling fleet.
The expedition, which includes several New Zealanders, begins on November 05, and will see Sea Shepherd extend its battlegrounds from Antarctica into the Pacific.
Sea Shepherd captain Paul Watson said the goal was to stop the ships taking any whales in the 2012-13 season. "It's time to bring intervention north and show Japan we intend to ensure there are no whales killed. We have never been stronger, and the Japanese have never been weaker, so we need to take advantage of that."
The crew of the ships will employ unmanned drone aircraft to locate the whaling fleet in Pacific and Antarctic waters.
Formed in 1977, Sea Shepherd has previously concentrated its anti-whaling activities on the Southern Ocean. Its direct action against the commercial fleet was the subject of documentary series Whale Wars, produced by Animal Planet.
The Institute for Cetacean Research — the Japanese government-funded organisation that manages the whaling fleet — revealed this month that Sea Shepherd's protest actions cost whalers $25.2 million in losses in the 2010-11 season, because they had been able to catch only 17 per cent of their quota, and 26 per cent in 2011-12.
"The key to success in stopping illegal whaling in the Southern Ocean whale sanctuary is economics," Watson said. "We will negate their profits. Our objective is to sink the fleet economically and we are well on our way to doing that."
Sea Shepherd's latest campaign will see its ships the Steve Irwin, Bob Barker and Bridgette Bardot deployed to try to disrupt the fleet as it makes its way from Japan to Antarctica. The Sam Simon will lie in wait for the ships once they make it to the Southern Ocean hunting grounds.
As the protest flotilla prepares for its annual confrontation, the institute has labelled its actions as "unforgivable acts akin to terrorism".
It said on its website that the environmental group had employed illegal boarding and ramming of research vessels, was using increasingly dangerous and violent sabotage, including throwing chemical-containing projectiles, smokebombs and incendiary devices.
"Such dangerous actions are not peaceful protest but unforgivable acts akin to terrorism that threaten human life at sea. We have condemned the harassment and sabotage and demand that they refrain from further spreading violence under the pretext of protecting whales."www.stuff.co.nz/national/7873346/The-Sea-Shepherd-extends-battlefield

The Japanese should not be allowed anywhere near our territorial waters and definitely not in the southern ocean whale sanctuary.

Whale battle in Southern OceanBy MICHAEL FIELD - Fairfax NZ News | 11:44AM - Saturday, 16 February 2013ENEMY OVER YONDER: The view from Sea Shephard's ship Bob Barker. — Photo: SEA SHEPHERD.JAPANESE WHALERS and the radical Sea Shepherd organisation are battling each other in the Southern Ocean today.
Sea Shepherd say the Japanese harpoon boat Yashin Maru No.2 has killed a whale and has made nine attempts so far to transfer it to the factory ship Nisshin Maru.
Sea Shepherd's ship Bob Barker has been blocking access to the factory ship, the organisation says.

The helmsman of the Bob Barker (which is an icebreaker) should have turned the wheel hard to starboard and rammed those slitty-eyed Japanese filth.

if Japan and China go to war, lets hope that EVERYONE else including Australia, just stays the f*** out of it.
In truth, any such war in that region which includes China, brings a far greater threat of Defcon Armageddon than these ridiculous incoherent Lefty threats about an attack on Iran drawing in China/Russia. The Chinese should really just back off over 2-bob islands and things like f***ing Taiwans "independance"... In some measures it is now the most prosperous nation on earth, and why run around engaging in bluff and bluster 'face saving".
As for Sea Shepherd, theyre really just a bunch of lying f***ing ferals anyway, including their leader who is another Michael Moore, and thats not a flattering comparison in any way.
and although I feel bad seeing whales carved up, most of us participate in the slaughter of mammals for meat. there IS an element of hypocrisy on our end.
I would dearly LOVE to see a bunch of Jap whalemen throw those c***s headfirst back in, when they board those ships.
theyre the same vermin who if they were not there, would be running around in white glad-wrap smashing peoples cars at a 'peace march" anyway.

It all suffers, Jody, whether it is endangered or not, it prefers life to death.
truth be told, those ferals mostly care less about the fkn whales than I do.
I would like to see the whales left alone, fck, Id like to see the sources of meat that i myself consume left alone. I have nothing against the whales, but I have little but scorn and cynicism for the rent-a-ferals professional activists masquerading as giving a shit. They play rough, and then they run to the Hague squealing when their boat gets dinged.. And its 100% the result of their own tactics that any collision ever occurs. And thats to say nothing of the shining of laser pens in peoples eyes and this sort of cowardly shit . (no wonder they appeal to skulking cowards like Richo and Phil)
Yes, I would PMSL if the Dreds and Bongos ferals got caught in mid-air as they scale the railing, and tossed headfirst back into the sea. They are the equivalent of the Graffiti-artist demographic meets the white glad-wrap and face-masks brigade. If the whales are relying on these, or any other unemployed leftards, the whales are probably fucked.

I agree with you and it's why I am drawing closer and closer to being a vegetarian. I don't eat much red meat anymore. I know nothing of the people involved in trying to save the whales or if they have some kind of agenda...all I know is that if they can save at least one whale form being killed for so called "scientific purposes" I am happy. I wish they could torpedo the whalers clean out of the water.

I'm not against anything being eaten however, it is very distressing when large animals have to die slowly. I think that bothers most people. Like I've said before... man should only eat from what they farm and leave the wild animals alone!

Sea Shepherd ship rammedBy MICHAEL FIELD - Fairfax NZ News | 4:21PM - Wednesday, 20 February 2013WATERFIGHT: Sea Shepherd's flagship Bob Barker. — Photo: Sea Shepherd.ATTEMPTS to stop the refuelling of a Japanese whaling ship in the Southern Ocean have turned sour with Sea Shepherd reporting one of its vessels is taking on water amidst after being rammed.
In a brief message from Sea Shepherd leader Paul Watson, the organisation said the 8000 ton factory ship Nisshin Maru had rammed the protesters' ships the Steve Irwin and Bob Barker.
"Both vessels continue to hold their positions," the message said.
"The Bob Barker is taking on water in their engine room."
Sea Shepherd’s Australian director, Jeff Hansen, said the anti-whaling group had been blocking attempts by Nisshin Maru to take on fuel from the South Korean vessel Sun Laurel.
The action was occurring in the Southern Ocean, north of the Australian Casey Research Station.
Hansen claimed the tanker, which flew a Panama flag, had never been in the ice before and was now near the main ice shelf.
He said the Sea Shepherd ships Steve Irwin and Sam Simon were beside the tanker while the Bob Barker was blocking the stern slip way of the Nisshin Maru.
“All three harpoon ships are currently circling the group, blasting the ships with water cannons, trying to bully a path through the ice for the Nisshin Maru.”
Captain Siddharth Chakravarty aboard the Steve Irwin had said the situation had gone too far.
“The recklessness of the Japanese whaling fleet and the Sun Laurel have put Antarctica's rich environment at grave risk for an ecological nightmare,” he said.
“The time has come for the Australian government to intervene and and put a stop to this insanity."www.stuff.co.nz/world/8329457/Sea-Shepherd-ship-rammed
