Single mums turn to brothels, stripping after dole cutsSOME single mothers hit by recent welfare cuts to parenting payments have turned to prostitution and strip clubs in order to keep a roof over their family's head. The payment cuts came in at the start of 2013 and affect 84,000 single parents, mostly mothers who received parenting payments. The majority have been shifted onto the Newstart unemployment allowance when their youngest child turns eight. More than 60,000 single parents now receive between $60 to $100 a week less under entitlement changes. While the budget will look $728 million better over four years and make the system more sustainable, welfare groups have been concerned families will fall into poverty. My understanding of "immoral" is that an activity is "immoral" if it fails to con form "to the patterns of conduct usually accepted or established as consistent with principles of personal and social ethics". Now we live in a capitalist society. I've got nothing against capitalism. I've always freely acknowledged that I support Labor and Labor's opponents always throw the label "socialist" at it. Socialist, my arse! Labor is every bit as much a Big Government capitalist party as the Liberals. I mention that because I want to make clear that we live in a society whose capitalist values are cherished, nurtured and defended by both sides of politics. Prostitution is not viewed as "immoral" by our capitalist society and indeed is regarded as a perfectly valid legal commercial activity. The transaction is perfectly straightforward. The product is sex. The consumer pays and the sex worker delivers. If you accept capitalism as the best economic basis of social organisation, and if you believe the less restrictions placed on capitalism the better - in other words if you accept the idea of the "Invisible Hand" - then what's your problem? |

Yes Pim, thats what I meant. I personally don't believe having children out of wedlock is a crime or even a moral crime. But I remember Matt saying he and his girlfriend aren't married. Yet according to his Bible, thats immoral.

Look I really don't care what these women do to get off the pension - a job is a job I suppose and as someone pointed out, they can earn quite a lot in those sorts of occupations. Not ideal I suppose for mothers, but women do resort to prostitution and often quite willingly. The main thing is to address the huge numbers of young girls choosing single motherhood as a career option. To go to the top of lists for housing, to be given everything for free or subsidised while the poor old working taxpayers - especially those on minimal wages - battle it out every day trying to make a living but getting no assistance at all and who are often worse off than the welfare scammers.  |

Many young girls were lured into having babies with the Costello conceived notion of a baby bonus, the seeds were sown for unemployed girls to be mothers and care not for work or education, life's a ball on the rock and roll...considered also is what these young people receive from charities...food, clothing, TV.s, fridges, washing machines, money for rent and tickets to the movies for their kids and wait there is more...all from money given by donation and largely government funding to these corperate charities.
Back in the old days raising kids families received a meager child endowment of a few bucks a month to help out, raising kids one had to work, including single mothers.
What has been spawned due to the Howard years of welfare largess for young girls (and the middle class) is a problem Labor inherited is the expectation of rather than contributing to society is to take from society and do not contribute.
And another example of where Howard wasted the golden years rather than spending on infrastructure, education and health, it was a handout mentality that was created. Expect more of the same if Abbott wins the next poll.
No one is forcing women into prostitution if they have time to do that then they have time to look for meaning full work, which is available.
