I can't stand Norton! I've had it before years ago and for some reason I signed up again. But it's driving me mad - this constant bombardment wanting me to do this, do that. At the moment it's completely taking over my computer. The latest is taking over my browsing from Microsoft Edge.
So ... question is, I must be coming up for a renewal soon and I'd like to get rid of it. I just want something that works quietly in the background and doesn't constantly harass me to add this or that.
Somehow I don't think they'll let me go that easily seeing as I signed up for a cheaper subscription last year.
So how can I prevent them from automatically renewing my subscription?

You'll need to log into your Norton account on the web and delete your credit card details. Then, when the expiry time comes up, they can't auto-renew. I had Norton for many many years and finally took a chance on reverting to Windows own inbuilt anti-virus. I've had no issues since switching back to Windows Security. It is far less intrusive and seems to protect the PC just as well as Norton did. You could also just uninstall Norton once you have made sure that your credit card details have been removed from their website even before it expires. Norton's instruction on cancelling auto-renewal: support.norton.com/sp/en/au/home/current/solutions/kb20090818144126ENp.s. The guy who put this video up found they had made a small change ... Hi there, looks like Norton made a little change, though it still works for me. When you click on the "Cancel Subscription Renewal" link and the little dialog box pops up, just close it (by using the "x") and it should redirect you to the cancellation page. The "official" Norton video ... I think from memory there is the option to remove credit card details from the account ... Could be as simple as clicking on the "trashcan" icon?

Thanks Gort. But I can't get into this Norton Account. It just keeps saying the username or password I entered is invalid. Please try again. It's also taken over my browser which was Google but is now Norton Safe Search. That just happened today.

Is there an option to click on "I forgot my password" or "forgot username" once you enter your email address in?
Is so, they can email a password reset option to allow you to get into your account.
As for Norton Safe Search ...
Turn on or turn off Norton Safe Web from Extensions page
Start Google Chrome.
On the top-right corner, click Customize and control Google Chrome (the three vertical dots), and then click Settings.
In the left pane, click Extensions.
In the Extensions page, next to Norton Safe Web, move the slider to enable or disable the extension.

Yep, I tried that. They said my username or password entered was invalid. And they emailed me my Username which is exactly the same one I was using! So maybe it was the password. But the password I used was the same one I always use as well. Maybe I can ring my bank and tell them to remove Norton from my automatic payments? I'll try to remove Norton Safe Search shortly.

OK ... well at least you have the username sorted. Now you can use the "forgot password" button to get an automated email from them with a link to reset your password. (Unless you had caps lock on by mistake? I've sometimes done that.)

That's OK ... it's just a security measure in case someone was trying to "hack" your account ... Have a nice cuppa - wait an hour and try hitting the "Forgot password" button after you have given the Norton account a rest. here is the link to "forgot password" page ... login.norton.com/sso/embedded/forgetPassword

Trouble is Gort - I haven't forgotten my password. Not those long nails acting up again? p.s. Is it one of those horrible requirements where they want an upper case; a special character; and a numeral somewhere in the password? I hate those!

Lol. Yep it's like going around in circles. It might be better to ring St George on Monday and cancel Norton's subscription payment which they will automatically take if I can't get into this wretched account. It should be coming up in the next month or two I think.

The bank option might work, but it would be better if you get into your Norton account and remove the details there ... I wouldn't trust them to not attempt a renewal anyway and it might slip through ... then you would have a fight with your bank also.

Yeah that's true. But Norton are making it extremely difficult for me to get into that account! Maybe they're anticipating what I'm up to.

Yeah, you wouldn't be on your Pat Malone there either. Many people got pissed off with the "forced" auto-renewal setting.

So ... the problem of signing into the Norton account is that I am using my usual username and password but they are saying that either the Username or Password is invalid. However they only give the option of retrieving the Username - not the password. So you're stuck. Window Techies advice is to download the Restoro Repair Tool. Which I am not going to do.
Norton also took over my search engine and installed their own Norton Safe Search. This is just an ongoing headache!

Give the forgot password link a go? ... You would then (if it works) have to use the temporary password they would email you and then set a brand new password ... I think. This link *should* get you to where you can make a start on getting a new password: login.norton.com/sso/embedded/forgetPassword

I'm sorry, I didn't read your OP properly! You are using Microsoft Edge as your browser. Turn off or turn on Norton Safe Web from Extensions page in Microsoft Edge Start Microsoft Edge. On the top-right corner, click Settings and More (the three horizontal dots) and then click Extensions. In the Installed Extensions page, under Norton Safe Web, move the slider to enable or disable the extension.

Can't do any of those! Norton safe search just doesn't come up.
And notice their terms: In accordance with our Global Privacy Statement, we retain your payment information that is entered and stored in your account. This information is used to: 1) automatically renew all active automatically renewing subscriptions that are in your account; and 2) suggest its use for any subsequent Transaction to help facilitate your Transaction without prompting you to re-enter your payment information each time.
Surely they can't sign you up for ever! But that's basically what happens with this auto renew crap.
Ok .... just saw where I can cancel my renewal. I just hope they don't cancel before I get to the end of my subscription.

Woo Hoo! Well done. From memory, when I turned off auto-renewal on my subscription, a reminder popped up from within the software about a week before it was due to expire ... maybe even a bit earlier. I just ignored it each time it popped up until it expired. Then I uninstalled the Norton software and reverted to Windows inbuilt security. Been fine ever since.

I haven't turned it off yet. I was just looking at it. They want to speak to you about your decision. I'll make a list of grievances. I'm still unable to remove Norton Safe Search because I just can't find it anywhere! And it's such a horrible search engine because naturally if it's totally "safe" they've cut out 85% of websites. It's pathetic really. But Norton anti-virus has a green tick on websites so you know they're ok. They warn you if you are entering into a website that is unsafe. So I don't really need this Safe Search crap.
