How the hell did Hobart reach 40c yesterday? It rarely reaches 30c.
Is this evidence of global warming?

We need the Monsoon to bring the temps down, but it has not happened this year.

We need the Monsoon to bring the temps down, but it has not happened this year. Too early for the monsoon anyway...usually mid- late January.

It is called a Heat Wave and has happened MANY times before.

Tasmania has not had temps like that.

Some people think weather only started in the late 1800's, especially the global warming groupies.

It is global warming.

Some people think weather only started in the late 1800's, especially the global warming groupies. So it's not just Economics that you're totally illiterate in.

Dude the only temperature increase you should be concerned about is the one happening in your empty head.

The world is getting hotter, and within a billion years the average temperature will be 60c, which will mean very few species will exist and a lot of the water will be vapour.

Dude the only temperature increase you should be concerned about is the one happening in your empty head. So, you know sfa about Economics, about Science and also about history, evidently. So how does this relate to this thread ? Well since the 1850's (that was at the height of a little known event called Industrial Revolution, incidentally) the amount of carbon that has been released into the atmosphere has increased exponentially. At the same time, economic output has also increased exponentially. Simple Logic, I know, but still way over your head.

Fliphead ... every scientist knows that there's no correlation between CO2 and temperature rise, the only honeys that push that barrow are socialist Flipheads like you that are trying to steal wealth instead of earning it for themselves.

This earth will not be here in a billion years. Exactly, it'll be devoid of life. So we should be exploiting it, and enjoying it, while we exist!

Four words.....GREENHOUSE GASES and GLOBAL WARMING Four words ... You've been had mate. That's five words. "You've" is two words. It's a fruitless and arid non-debate. So we have a heat wave after a couple of wet summers. What does the poem My Country say about "droughts and flooding rains" and "her beauty and her terror"? It would seem that after a couple of wet years what's happened is the growth of a lot of vegetation which it turn provides fuel for some pretty bad bushfires. That's the Australian experience. Didn't Tasmania have some pretty godawful and catastrophic bushfires in the late 1960s? It was in 1967, according to Mr Google. Time for another one. Global warming and climate change are about trends rather than individual events.

Yes, and the trend is for an increasing frequency of 'Extreme' weather events.

We need the Monsoon to bring the temps down, but it has not happened this year. we've had a cyclone! No you haven't...where did it make landfall? Cyclones aren't always associated with the monsoon. The trough is only forming now and is still way off the northern coast.

There is no doubt the climate trend is warming as forecasted decades ago with the known correlation between CO2 and atmospheric gases and temperatures. And with that warming will be more extreme weather events, such as what is happening around the globe.
The minority few scientist who claim there is no correlation between atmospheric CO2 and temperatures are the same RW free marketeer scientists who gave us that there is no link between passive tobacco smoke and disease, proven without doubt wrong, also they claimed sulfur gas from coal fired power stations is not the cause of 'Acid Rain', similarly proven wrong, and same mob that gave us DDT was not harmful to the environment and likened scientist who were claiming it was to be tho same as Hitlers Nazi regime, again proven wrong. Just as now claim that those climate scientist who are ringing the warning bells on CO2 and climate change are socialist commies, as what garfield espouses over and over until the propaganda in his own mind has him convinced.
This is the same mob of scientist from the US Marshall Institute of Science funded by companies such as Chevron, the big end of town companies, who oppose any govt regulation in a free market that have people people and politicians like Abbott pinning their hopes on that increased atmospheric CO2 does not cause climate change....and what a gamble that is, let just keep polluting the skies and take no heed of the warning.
What these skeptic driven small group of scientist have done with political clout and media help is nothing more than formulate a disinformation campaign on behalf of the fossil fuel industry just as they have run similar campaigns with DDT, sulfur from coal power stations and aiding the Tobacco industry to peddle it's drug of addiction and disease...and this is what skeptics are placing their money on for a longshot bet, a gamble it will all go away...when the simple truth is, it wont and will only get worse with weather extremes, which equates to crop loss and land degradation...for us and the children of the near future.
Abbott will repeal the Carbon Tax he announces, and somehow this will make climate change go away and energy prices far cheaper and everyone happy vegemites...any economist will tell you carbon based energy will only rise further as demand increases, as well as countries increasing their green energy into their grids reducing the need for coal and coal seam gas, if Australia doesn't increase its green energy into the grid electricity prices will only soar.
Abbott is a free marketeer whose ideology is to be a lobbyist for the big end of town and their fat profits.
Its a dinosaur mentality that has no vision for the future economy of Australia and the globe.

"The minority few scientist who claim there is no correlation between atmospheric CO2 and temperatures are the same RW free marketeer scientists who gave us that there is no link between passive tobacco smoke and disease, proven without doubt wrong,...."
I freely admit I am not a scientist. Given the people working in the area of medical science are highly skilled specialists when looking at lung cancer etc brought on cigs, I would have thought it unlikely they would also be skilled in the area of climatetology & similar fields.
I wonder therefore if the above statement is nothing more than one persons ill informed opinion?
