There are members here who enjoy these topics and those who don't. We could call it the Crisis Board. It will just be a separate news board for these topics that tend to irritate the majority. I want to keep this group going as smoothly as possible and a mostly enjoyable place to chat and debate.

Yes it is news and can be put on a separate news board for those who are interested to chat about to their hearts content.

Even though I think Buzz is a “Chicken Little” doom & gloom merchant, I agree with him that his topics are news and therefore belong on the General board.
The moment we start dictating what is news and what isn't, we begin the descent of a slippery censorship slope.
If you don't like reading Buzz's threads, then don't open them. The messageboard clearly displays who started each thread.

KTJ I have to think of other members who are not happy with these topics. my job as a mod is to keep the board running smoothly.

KTJ I have to think of other members who are not happy with these topics. my job as a mod is to keep the board running smoothly. And when people then complain about those other members' topics? What then?
Like I already posted, it's the beginning of a very slippery slope.

It would be good if these topics were kept to the one post instead of being bought up in many different posts.

I did ask Buzz to keep these topics in one post but yes they keep turning up in different posts.

The global financial crisis is news, it is reported on everyday, talked about by politicians. Will we not be able to post discussions about what Wayne Swan has said about the budget deficit because he mentions the global financial crisis?

Jody, I would keep it in the news section. Buzz has as much right as any of us to post items we think newsworthy. If items get out of hand they are relegated to the boxing ring otherwise, if the topic is not followed, it soon drops off the bottom anyway. My thoughts...

I'll give this poll a couple of more days and which ever answer get the most votes is what I will go with. I'll let majority rule.

Stellar is not the only who complained. If the vote comes out at 50/50 I will discuss it with my other mod and we'll make an informed decison.

Actually, I think Stellar posts a lot of rubbish, so if a special board is created for Buzzy-boy, I DEMAND a special board for Stellar's rubbish too.
See what a can of worms has now been opened?

for petes sake I do the right thing and ask members to have a say and it turns to silly bitching. How about I just delete this and make my own decision. :/

I would prefer not to have a demeaning board like that. An extra news board is preferable.

No need. If a topic is not news-worthy, then no-one replies and the topic drifts away.
It's not like there are 1000s of members anyway and the board ticks over pages of topics every day.
I say less different boards rather than more.

problem is though...members do reply but usually with annoyance so it ends up being a bitch fest and keeps the topic there longer.

I think it needs more than a 50% + 1 majority. That's the problem with these sorts of polls. If you base a decision on a set of reponses and it goes in favour of 50% + 1, you'll still be doing something which half the membership opposes. It's a case of "heavy hangs the head that wears the crown", jody! In the end, it comes down to your decision.
To the whingers, I think jody is acting in good faith here and is trying to consult the membership. Problem is that in consulting, when the decision is made those who'd voted against end up feeling aggrieved.
There is a middle path if I may make a modest proposal, and that is that Buzz and others who have a tendency to spam the board - eg Buzz with his boringly repetitive posts about God's family tree and how we're all on the brink of destruction because if the global economy doesn't go belly up resulting in global war, bird flu will get us all. And KTJ with his inane anti-American obsessions - just cool it for a while and give us all a break. Post about something else for a change: tell us a story, sing us a song, KTJ post some of those cool pics of NZ landscapes or vintage trains or vintage WW2 planes or something. And Buzz you're a clever knowledgeable man. You can also be quite funny. Make us laugh. Don't bore us shitless.

Stop whingeing and simply ignore the posts that annoy you, which is what I do.( I am gifted with wisdom though!)If the board should get flooded with repetitive and unwanted material and it should beginning to look as if it is stuffed with spam, simply delete all but one post. That will possible shut up the cuprit. Avoid the quick fix that will probably cause more shit than it will alleviate

Pim that would be great but I just don't think it is possible
Nice suggestion Geo but they have been tried before with no real success. Believe me, moderating isn't an easy job...I cannot please everyone all of the time.

I will however say this as it looks like we will keep allowing the spam to stay on this board......I don't want to hear any complaints when the spam is posted and we all know it will be posted again and again and again.
