It'll actually affect him in a negative way I think. It will become a system where organising becomes extremely important, and getting people out to vote.
Love or hate the Labour movement, it is something they have quite a lot of experience doing. Sure, the Unions only have 20% of the workforce as members, but they still have clout. The WorkChoices campaign is an example of that.
The unions have organisers in every town and city, and you can expect their position descriptions to be added onto in QLD now.

Compulsory voting is a form of FASCISM.
I like having the right to vote in general elections and local council elections.
But as well as having a choice of who to vote for, I also like having a choice of whether or not to vote.

You don't have to vote in Australia, a person can always put a blank ballot paper in the ballot box.

It's the return bout of Dickhead vs Dropkick - this board is privileged to have not just one village idiot but two ... both of them renowned for turning ignorance into an art form. Stay tuned ...

Newman to scrap compulsory voting in QLD
It would nice if the statement had some truth in it.
MY reading of the Courier mail is that a discussion paper on a number of issues of which the above is a topic has been put out. Until Newman puts up legislation & that legislation is passed by the Parliament, then the above is premature at best & wrong at worst

I have no problem with optional voting, it would keep people from Mt. Druitt from voting. They would be too lazy to get up to exercise their civic duty, and too clueless. They don't even understand the difference between Local, State and Federal responsibilities, probably because Centrelink is the only thing they use!

Most people don't really give a flip whats going on, they just want to live their lives under what ever circumstances they are dealt, a small minority of very passionate people fight to rule over the benign majority.

Earl Grey, what rot.
People in places like Mt. Druitt wont vote, not because of rainy weather but because they "couldn't be bothered", just like they can't be bothered working, or going to school if they're under 18.
These are the sort of people who shouldn't vote, because they don't understand what they're doing.

These are the sort of people who shouldn't vote, because they don't understand what they're doing. That doesn't explain the very small number of fines for not voting, and the very small number of informal votes. Try again. They're all votin' for Tony Abbott next time, because they don't like the red headed liar, or the boat people. Are these the people you want to force to the polling place? I don't, because this nation cannot afford to have the extremist Tony Abbott as Prime Minister.

They're all votin' for Tony Abbott next time, because they don't like the red headed liar, or the boat people. So your mates are voting for the RAbbott. Doesn't necessarily mean that most people will. In the increasingly vast and diverse amount of people that I speak to, the meme is the same, Abbott's a Clown. I suspect that Australians don't vote in Clowns.

There is no doubt, that non-compulsory voting favours parties wanting the financially better off vote. Poorer people will tend not to go out to vote due to silly things like rainy weather on polling day.
I have heard this comment before but is there actually any proof as to its accuracy? Obama won in 2008 & again 2012 reasonably comfortably against his Rupublican rivals.

These are the sort of people who shouldn't vote, because they don't understand what they're doing. You don't understand what you're doing, hasn't stopped you voting. I fully understand. I believe the National Broadband Network is vital for our economic future. There is no way we can transition from a resources based economy to a services based economy without it.

So it's a vote for the atheist devil woman who lives with a bloke she isn't married to, and a vote against the guy who's a big-time member of the vast global paedophile conspiracy. Is that it?

What a prejudice bourgeois comment that is, typical of Matty Boy most of his commentry is shallow, ignorant and hate minded inspired. Having lived in the Mt Druitt area for a number os years, as I have lived in many areas of Sydney, Nth Shore, inner west and south, to make the assumption that all people of the Mt Druitt area are poorly educated dole bludgers is made from blind prejudice, that is certainly not the case from my experience of the area. The majority of the people are working class and have education aspirations for their kids, and the schools there are very supportive of students, as is all public schooling no matter where schools are located. While there is a housing commission demographic that gives the area a bad rap, that is an issue of poor public housing planning, yet even amongst these people for the most are very appreciative of their housing. So stick your honkie elitism up your skinny white ass jew boy.. I doubt if you have a job at all and you live of mummy and daddy welfare..
