As usual you go for the tabloid paleo atheist low-hanging fruit and miss the deeper point about Scott Morrison which is that Scott Morrison as Australian prime minister is in the process of becoming publicly joined at the hip to Donald Trump who this week went the naked misogynist racist full Monty against four female Democratic Party women of colour. In a world in which governents and the citizenry that they govern tend to be conflated, the Australian prime minister has created a dynamic in which Australia as a nation risks being perceived as racist by association in the eyes of the world. And Trump, with his appalling treatment of people crossing the US - Mexican border, can and does point to Australia as his inspiration.
This week Trump announced a full state dinner for Scott Morrison during his visit to the US scheduled for later this year. Scott Morrison is Trump's little poster boy these days for racism as the keystone of refugee policy. In this regard ScoMo outdoes even Trump's more ardent admirers and sycophants in Congress. Scott Morrison's version of the "prosperity gospel" - which lies at the core of ScoMo's Pentecostal religiosity (his "faith", as ScoMo calls it) is held up by Trump as a model to follow. Scott Morrison is an identikit Trump supporter.
As usual you, Prickles, miss the deeper questions. Is this what most Australians voted for when they elected the Morrison government by the slimmest of margins? Did the Australian people, or that 40 odd percent who voted for the Morrison government, vote for an intimate, international, very public association with the world's leading and increasingly aggressive white supremacist?
Because that's what they're getting.
But hey, Trickles' franking credits are safe and that's all that matters, right?

But before he can make his usual gratuitous snide sideswipe against religion and people of faith, he finds that he's been briefly mentioned himself in a passing comment, but an entirely relevant and justifiable comment, at the end of a much lengthier post about the prime minister whose government he voted for and the way his "prosperity gospel" positions Australia in a way that Australians didn't necessarily think they were voting for when they elected his government. You voted for this dude in a dumb and single issue way. Fuck every other consideration, as long as my franking credits are safe and that's all that matters, right? Doing a workaround and returning to Prickles' thread topic, Prickles appears to be referring to the extreme sectarianism of Izzy Folau's dogmatic view of how the Bible should be applied. Yes it is sectarian and if it weren't for the fact that the loony toons far right of the Liberal Party has seized upon the controversy surrounding Israel Folau to elevate him and his extreme sectarian nonsense to the status of poster boy for their more nefarious and sinister agendas regarding their war on the Australian Human Rights Act, it would be ludicrous at best. But the fact that he finds even the prosperity gospel of even Scott Morrison's Pentecostalism to be as much the work of the devil as Catholicism gives you an idea of the desperate lengths the loony toons fruitcake right of the Liberal Party is prepared to go in its culture wars.
