From the President: email to party members ...
Labor Vindicated, Liberals put on notice
At moments of crisis Australian look to their leaders to lead.
At this moment of crisis Australians are increasingly looking to their Premiers for leadership.
Annastacia Palaszczuk, Mark McGowan and Dan Andrews have led Australia’s response to the pandemic by listening to the health experts and showing that to protect the Australian economy, you have to prioritise the health and welfare of all Australians.
When it comes to Canberra, Australians are giving up on expecting leadership from Scott Morrison.
People are fed up by Morrison’s blame-shifting and his tendency to avoid responsibility. Scott Morrison never takes responsibility for his mistakes. It’s always someone else’s fault.
The actions of Labor Premiers changed the trajectory of the pandemic and effectively routed 30 years of the neo-liberal trickle-down economics burned into the DNA of the modern Liberal party.
Scott Morrison had to be dragged kicking and screaming to backing lockdowns and wage subsidies to protect jobs.
At the same time Morrison botched Australia’s vaccination rollout by failing to secure enough vaccines to avoid a third wave of the virus.
In the next decade the pandemic and its aftermath, along with climate change, is going to completely reshape global, national and local politics.
Australians want better leadership, not more blame-shifting and excuses.
Anthony Albanese and Labor has already started outlining our plan to take Australia through the COVID recovery – supporting jobs, economic growth, and revitalising Australian manufacturing.
The only way Australia can build back better from the pandemic is with an Albanese Labor Government. But to make that happen, we need to fund crucial advertising and campaigning that will reach undecided voters.
Scott Morrison’s habit of going missing and passing the buck has a real cost for Australians.
Our health is at risk. Our economy is held hostage. Families are being kept apart. Children are stressed and missing school.
Scott Morrison had two jobs – rolling out the COVID vaccine and fixing our broken quarantine system. He has bungled both and Australians are paying the price for his failure.
Australians deserve better, and I hope we can count on your support to deliver that for them.
In solidarity,
Wayne Swan
ALP National President
