I believe religion and patriotism go hand-in-hand.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would have to be one of the most patriotic religions around, even believing the U.S. Constitution was divinely inspired.

And yet the United States pioneered the secular state. The tragic irony being that this proud secular state has been hijacked by religious fundamentalists with a nasty agenda.
Just goes to show that the watchword for the defenders of the liberal secular state against the voodoo obscurantism of people like Matt is "eternal vigilance!"

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a CULT based on the bullshit from the con-artist and LIAR Joseph Smith.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a CULT based on the bullshit from the con-artist and LIAR Joseph Smith. I'm with KTJ on this, sorry matte. Are you aware how many times the Book of Mormon has been revised? Did you know they used to think black people were the descendants of Cain?

Ya gotta love these "revelations" from the Big Fella Upstairs to resolve a moral conundrum. Atheists and agnostics don't have this problem. When faced with an ethical dilemma an atheist or agnostic is obliged by the logic of his position to "own" the dilemma and resolve it for himself either by himself or in collaboration with others. To be fair to believing mainstream Christians, their faith is also big on personal responsibility and "owning" a moral dilemma as the first step in resolving it. My critique here is aimed more specifically at Mormons. Their fundamental racism ran too deep to be resolved in one fell swoop by the Chairman of the Board - or whatever they call the Mormon Big Cheese in Utah - calling a meeting to announce: "Guys, it's cool! I've just had word from the Big Fella Upstairs and he says it's OK to be black and Mormon. Now, what's next on today's agenda?" But back to the article! Underwhelming
