Your analogy begs the question, and is pandering to the lowest common denominator. ---If science were certain the black cat wasn't there, the use of the flashlight would be redundant and illogical.
Theology is notion that the existence of Black cats can't be limited to a single dark room.

The Spork has returned! Pim has a question for you re: The new Prime Minister ... My first question to Occam, after saying "g'day mate!" Is "Owyergoinmateorright?" which is Crocodile Dundee speak (Paul Hogan, the creator of that character, has a lot to answer for!) for "how are you going, mate? Alright?"

"Proof" again. Reductionist claptrap. Argument from first principles. Puerile on both sides. Boring as batshit.

You really ought to pick a side.

Pantheism has a certain appeal. I wonder what the difference is. Alas we will never have an interesting discussion about pantheism/polytheism because the prospective participants can't get beyond their own subjective barrow-pushing

Are you denying that there are hundreds of gods to choose from? ~Ipso facto~ I'm exactly one deity less closed-minded than you are. To redirect your loaded question: Are you affirming there are hundreds of gods in existence, from which one could choose?

Alas we will never have an interesting discussion about pantheism/polytheism because the prospective participants can't get beyond their own subjective barrow-pushing Pantheism is the belief that all things are god, while Polytheism is the belief of many gods. I'd be happy to open a discussion about this pim; I doubt our forum atheopaths (thanks Caskur) could resist interrupting with their pompous, yet banal opinions.

To redirect your loaded question: Are you affirming there are hundreds of gods in existence, from which one could choose? What a ridiculous statement. The fact that there are hundreds of gods to choose from shows us the lack of direction from all religions, who can't get their fantastic stories straight

I would echo your sentiment then, save for one.

Pantheism is the belief that all things are god, while Polytheism is the belief of many gods. Yeah, well some of us are “of sound mind” and therefore don't believe unless it can be proven or observed or measured. Anything else can quite legitimately be regarded as being a delusion until proof or observation or measurement is provided.

There's a perfectly fine Private Message system on this board, which you can utilise ... thus avoiding any others making any comments on your discussion. Yorick on a dedicated Religion discussion board it's not a matter of "avoiding" comments from others. But on a dedicated Religion discussion board it should be possible to discuss topics like pantheism without all the paleo-atheist sledging from people who come onto the Religion board with a destructive agenda. Let me be clear: I don't think you have a destructive agenda. I'm not interested in "proving" that atheists are right or wrong or that belief in a transcendant Deity is delusional or a no-brainer. And I readily acknowledge that was the level that people like Matt and Skippy would post on. It wasn't helpful. I happen to think one doesn't need to be a committed Christian or adherent of any belief system to have a productive conversation about faith. I have to go, alas. I can't continue this right now but there's a lot more I could say ...
