A family member of the accused man reportedly said police tried to contact him during the morning but he had already left home. Police said they arrested the man before he could get near either of the royals and kept him in custody overnight. He will face court later today. There were a small number of protesters amid the royal visit in Auckland yesterday. As for the protesters - if the best they can come up with is a bean counter's whinge: "I don't wanna pay for your holiday", then the monarchy is rock solid safe in NZ. As it is here.

Most times royalty visit NZ, that silly old bugger ends up getting arrested. Often the cops use an obscure law to lock him up just before royalty arrive, then they release him after the toffs have left. On other occasions he has been arrested for something and held in custody until the royals have left town, then the police have withdrawn all charges when it has got to court and he has been released.
On this occasion, the object he was carrying was a fresh human turd. In other words, he was probably hoping to get close enough to the royal couple to literally throw fresh human shit at them. Whether or not it was his shit, I wouldn't know.

I'm surprised at 74 he can even be bothered and give a shit (no pun intended).
Throwing human faeces is a serious health concern as bacteria and parasites can make one very very sick.
At 74, he truly needs to get a life.

According to USA Today, the royal family handed over more or less all royal property to the government 250 years ago — how generous! Though this means they don’t own all the monarchical goods, it makes the British taxpayers responsible for paying for the upkeep of a $16 billion art collection, Buckingham Palace, a bunch of castles, the royal jewels and lots of other shiny things. The royals obviously still get to wear and use the stuff, though. Not a bad deal.
The Queen currently receives an $83.8 million annual paycheck from the government, though a majority of that is used to pay her minions and hold public events and do other queen-ly business. On top of that, the Queen has private stock investments.
The great chunk of the royal endowment, though, comes from some pretty epic real estate portfolios. The Queen has homes and castles amounting to around $500 million, while her son Prince Charles has a real estate portfolio worth $1 billion.
Charles is the definitive cash king of the Windsor clan. Royal money, in the Windsor fam, gets funneled only to the first born male. Presumably this means the soon-to-be betrothed William is in for an awesome inheritance.
Poor Harry, on the other hand, who’s for the moment resting on the $10 million his mother left him, will be accepting alms.

the Kiwis dont pay a cent - neither to Aussies - its all honorary like the patron of a footy club. We can ditch the Queen and just have the governor general as our Head of State. The trip of Charles did cost us, we provided the VIP RAAF aircraft. If we were a republic, he would have been using his own plane! |

I have no problem with the Royals using RAAF aircraft. Why not, they are our leaders.
