When I read that article this morning I thought the parents should be appearing in the dock with their kid. Or should that be single mother?
Start hitting the parents with huge fines. Make them responsible for their rotten little brat's deliquent destructiveness. Make parents responsible for bringing up socially responsible children.
I know that's impossible. The only other thing I can think of is to stop potentially irresponsibile parents from breeding.

agreed Stellar....we are seeing what has happened due to children being given more and more rights. They think they're above the law now.

It's really quite scary. These kids are absolutely out of control. They can't be told ... they do as they like.
But parents play a major part in their children's upbringing. If they just let them go on their own merry way from day one, wreaking havoc without a second thought, someone should be held responsible.

It is scary to see what these kids think they can do now and yes, the parents are too busy smoking a bong, spending their mornings, afternoons and evenings at the pub, playing poker machines, playing the PS3 to care.

True ... the baby bonus is a curse! Maybe these parents should have to do some sort of work as repayment for their welfare existence. It shouldn't be just handed out without some sort of reciprocal responsibility to the taxpayers. The least we should expect of parents who don't work and are reliant on welfare is that they control their kids. They've got all day to do it. Maybe if their kids get into trouble, the parents should have their welfare benefits paid in vouchers - so no more ciggies, alcohol, drugs and pokies! That'd be a lesson to them!!

Don't think you can blame the baby bonus on this one. Hasn't been around that long. Kid is 13, I'd guess the BB has been around for about 8 or 9 years. I stand to be corrected though.

Spare the rod, spoil the child.
When my child is old enough, he will be disciplined when needed.

agree about sprare the rod spoil the child....however it does depend on how much of the rod the parent decides to use. There can be a fine line between discipline and abuse.

A smack on the derriere is okay when kids are small. You have to teach kids right from wrong at a very early age and kids need to know there are consequences arising from their bad behaviour. Older children can be disciplined by loss of expected outings and not getting everything they want, such as new clothes, access to the computer and so on.

I wasn't blaming the baby bonus for this kid's criminal behaviour ... I was just thinking how many more delinquent kids are going to be born to irresponsible parents like drug addicts and welfare bludgers just to get that payment. It's not as if we can expect those sorts of parents to bring their kids up morally and responsibly with a respect for other people's property.

Agreed. And not to be redeemable for plasma TVs.

formula vouchers, nappy vouchers, vouchers that can be spent at Baby Co or similar....that is how the baby bonus should be spent.

The baby bonus we received wasn't anywhere near enough to pay the specialist. You get bugger all back when you see a private specialist rather than a public doctor. I think we were two grand down after the bonus, no plasmas for us, but great care instead.
