I saw it too, a few days ago. I agree with your comments, Grim, and I'm glad I saw it. I tried to work out what the guy's route would be in the drive from Broken Hill to Darwin. The movie shows him going via Oodnadatta. Here's Wiki on Oodnadatta: Oodnadatta, in the Australian state of South Australia, is small town surrounded by an area of 7,800 square kilometres (3,000 sq mi) with cattle stations in arid pastoral rangelands close to the Simpson Desert, 1,011 km (628 mi) north of Adelaide and 112 m above sea level. It can be reached by an unsealed road from Coober Pedy or via the unsealed Oodnadatta Track from Marree to Marla or from the north via Finke, Northern Territory ("Old Ghan Heritage Trail"). The name is derived from Arrernte utnadata, meaning "mulga blossom".. It raises the question: how did he get there from Broken Hill? I looked up the Oodnadatta Track, and while I'd absolutely love to 4WD the Oodnadatta Track, it doesn't appear to be of any use in getting you from BH to Oodnadatta. Any thoughts?
I'd have thought, especially if you were gonna have the main character do the drive in his taxi, that the obvious and most direct route would be to drive directly from BH to Port Augusta and then take the Stuart Hwy straight up the guts to the Top End.

I'd have to say I agree...he would have had to get to Peterborough before heading north anyway...not much further to Pt Augusta then up the Stuart...mind you, wouldn't have made much of a movie travelling the bitumen highway. Unless he turned north at Yunta too hook in at Copley but that wouldn't have made much sense. I was interesting that while going through Marree, William Ck and Oodnadata (all of which featured in the movie) the Flinders Ranges were completely ignored. Perhaps they didn't want to show anywhere too scenic? I'll just put it down to artistic (Director's) licence The 'pussy willow' featured is a real thing, too... (though I think the movie version was a bit stylised)

SNAP....I saw the movie this morning at a discount-price session for senior citizens.
I was wide awake and didn't feel like staying in bed, but when I got up I was bored, so I headed downtown to see what was on at the movies and discovered an early session of Last Cab to Darwin was about to begin in five minutes in cinema 3, so made a snap decision to watch it. I'm glad I did....it was very enjoyable.
Now, I'm trying to make up my mind whether or not to watch Max Max Fury Road on my home theatre system this afternoon. I've got a 3D BluRay disc of it which turned up in the mail on Tuesday.
