North Korean minister 'obliterated' Julian Ryall Published: October 25, 2012 - 8:43AM TOKYO: A North Korean army minister was reportedly executed with a mortar round for drinking and carousing during the official mourning period after the death of Kim Jong-il. Kim Chol, the vice-minister of the army, was taken into custody earlier this year on the orders of Kim Jong-un, who assumed the leadership after his father died in December. On the orders of Mr Kim to leave "no trace of him behind, down to his hair", Kim Chol was forced to stand on a spot that had been zeroed in for a mortar round and was "obliterated", South Korean media reported. The execution is just one example of a purge of members of the North Korean military or party who threatened the fledgling regime of Mr Kim. So far this year, 14 senior officials have fallen victim to the purges, according to intelligence data provided to Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the South Korean foreign affairs, trade and unification committee. Those that have fallen from favour include Ri Yong-ho, the head of the army, and Ri Kwang-gon, the governor of the North Korean central bank. Analysts suggest Mr Kim is acting to consolidate his power base and deter any criticism of his youthfulness and inexperience. He is believed to be either 28 or 29. "When Kim Jong-un became North Korean leader following the mourning period for his father in late December, high-ranking military officers started disappearing," a source told the Chosun Ilbo newspaper. "From information compiled over the last month, we have concluded that dozens of military officers were purged." It also appears that Mr Kim told officials to use the excuse of misbehaviour during the mourning period to remove any potential opponents. Other officials have been executed by firing squads. Since being elevated to second-in-command by his father in 2010, Mr Kim has reportedly been behind the dismissal of at least 31 senior officials. Telegraph, London This story was found at: www.smh.com.au/world/north-korean-minister-obliterated-20121025-286os.html Not a cheep from Amnesty International nor any 'actorvists'. Imagine the US had done that to a Texas Inmate?

why doesnt someone just grow the pair to walk in, pull his piece out of his holster, and put him down..
same as that bloke could and should have done with Stalin in the 30s...pulled the gun out, pointed it at him point blank, then bottled out.. not much point in turning back past the point of no turning back, is there.. and there wasnt.

Often wondered about that myself Flaggg. Presumably the 'Brilliant Comrade' has enough body guards around to deter any creativity like that. Additionally to have got that high in the bureaucracy you'd be lynched by the populace eventually even if you did. Himmler could have killed Adolf but it'd only be a matter of time before Himmler would get it even from only an enraged Adolf loyalist.
Presumably the inner 'Brilliant Comrade' cronies and sycophants are so brainwashed and believe the BS about North Korea's first family that you'd never survive the exercise.
Mind you that general got a quick send off I understand an Army General who plotted a coup against the 'Young Leader' was burned alive with gasoline in a stadium.

Wonderful people these Norks ( and such a blessing they have nuclear weapons too with such fine judgment ) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_by_burningIn the late 1990s, a number of North Korean army generals were executed by being burnt alive inside the Rungrado May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea.[14] ^ a b Soukhorukov, Sergey (13 June 2004). "Train blast was ‘a plot to kill North Korea’s leader’". The Daily Telegraph. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/northkorea/1464413/Train-blast-was-a-plot-to-kill-North-Koreas-leader.htmlIt would not have been the first assassination attempt against Mr Kim, who succeeded his father Kim Il Sung as leader in 1994. At the end of the 1990s, a plan hatched by a number of Korean army generals was uncovered, and the conspirators arrested.
After they were interrogated, the generals were executed in Pyongyang's 150,000-capacity May Day Stadium. Petrol was poured over them and set alight, burning them alive.

Most of these despots surround themselves with like-minded souls, take out the leader and they'll only be replaced with a similar personality.

But he never stops to think why he's held in such low esteem on this board. You supported the death penalty for the Jews didnt you - ie if Himmler had done his job properly and you support the death penalty on defenceless unborn babies without trial so you are hardly one to talk. ;D

Get it correct, Altair, and stop being a dumbarse.
I neither supported nor condemned Himmler over the killing of the Jews.
I merely made a factual statement that if Himmler had done the job properly he had been given by Hitler, then we wouldn't have all the Jew vs Palestinian problems in the Middle East today.
Yet you are dishonest enough to attempt to distort that and claim that I actually SUPPORTED Himmler killing the Jews.
Just like you are dishonest enough to try to claim that I thought it was a good thing that a young woman in Colorado got her legs chopped off, when all I did was to comment that she was a dumbfuck to attempt to climb on a moving freight train, something any normal person would regard as being a common sense thing to NOT DO, except that you are obviously TOO DUMB & THICK to comprehend what a dangerous thing it is, then you try to blame the train crews who are the victims of that sort of dumbfuckery.
You are a totally unsavoury, dishonest character, Altair. You cannot even tell the truth about things without distorting it to untruths. You are a dark-ages joke. You are too gutless to even stand on your own two feet in the 21st century, instead prefering religious claptrap as a crutch. Perhaps Himmler should have been exterminating your ancestors instead of the Jews to save the 21st century from stupid people and their dumb genes.

What was that you said about deceit? I never at any time blamed the train crew so stop lying about it to get yourself out of your embarrassment.
As for Himmler - so you believe genocide can be done properly? As far as I'm concerned all genocide is improper.
As for the terribly injured rail victim you were roundly attacked by several posters re your comments on that incident not just myself so stop trying to rewrite history re your callous comments. You were gloating.

Yet again, you're full of shit, Altair.
I guess you think it is okay for people to attempt to climb on and off moving trains, then you no doubt blame the train crew for the dumbfuckery of clowns who do it, while criticising people who speak out about how dumb it is.
I reckon it is about time YOU were removed from the gene pool to stop the rest of it being polluted by stupidity.
I dare you to go and climb onto a moving freight train every day until you eventually fuck up. Go on...you seem to think it is normal behaviour, so why don't you do it?

Perhaps Himmler should have been exterminating your ancestors instead of the Jews to save the 21st century from stupid people and their dumb genes. errr ... <ahem!> (clears throat) ... excuse me?? (looks around self-consciously and wishes he were anywhere but here defending skippy) Far be it from me to be defending the likes of skippy but ... err ... I believe the point was ... like ... y'know ... genocide?? Firstly a teensy little historical point: actually it was Eichmann who did the genocide thing and the Israelis got him to dance on the end of a rope for it in 1961. But Eichmann carried out the policy which the likes of Himmler formulated. But I digress ... It's not so much that the likes of Himmler targeted Jews - although they certainly did that and that was mega bad. But that they decided as government policy that a particular group of people distinguished by their religion and ancestry were not to be permitted to live within those territories where German law could physically reach, and they harnessed all the technologicalknow-how, and all the organising power and industrial might of a modern highly developed State to exterminate them. There lies the horror. To make jokes about that sort of thing is not OK, KTJ. It's about as funny as a cartoon I recall by Pickering when he was cartoonist for the Canberra Times when he wanted to compare a government policy he disagreed with to an abortion - so he drew it as an abortion: complete with aborted foetus. Nobody laughed.
