The curtains fading bs was a myth created by those in Sydney and Melbourne because they couldn't understand (maybe jealous of us that we didn't have ds) Qld not having it, no one I've ever come across has ever said anything about curtains fading, thats an ancient and malicious myth. As I've said, there are enough valid reasons without resorting to that. KTJ, where does your brother live, Brisbane? Clearly we're not too backward for him, since he abandoned his country of birth. Nor, for the rest of the kiwis who live here, since QLd has the highest kiwi population. Jody, you really cannot compare the 2. Even my parents who once lived in HV before living on the Central Coast said the weather down there is nothing even remotely as hot as up here. Even, say, an hour and a half north of Brisbane/Gold Coast the difference in humidity from there and Brisbane/Gold Coast is staggering.

He originally moved there because he was co-habiting with a Queensland lass and she wanted to live in Brisbane, so he went along with it and they got married (in 1990). When their marriage broke up about 10 years ago, he was too settled to move back to NZ, so he stayed there.

My body clock has not adjusted yet and I'm getting up too late in the mornings. I can't say I like DS because I don't but everyone else in the family seems to like it. However one blessing is that it hasn't been as hot as years gone by - or not as hot as I remember it. Back then I recall the relief once night fell - usually after 9 pm - which is a long time to wait for some relief from the heat.
But that was quite a while ago. I remember pre Christmas shopping in 40C heat. I recall watching the horizon where bushfires ringing the northern beaches were blazing out of control. The smoke drifting over our place and the smell of burning. Haven't experienced that for 10 years or so. I recall not being able to stand being out in my front courtyard because the heat was an absolute inferno. You certainly couldn't walk out there without shoes. If you left your car parked out in the sun you had to open all door for about 10 mins before you could get in.
But the last 7 summers seem to have been very mild. Definitely the last 2 or 3 were quite cool. No summers in fact. So daylight saving hasn't been too much of a problem.
But I do know what it's like in Qld in summer because I've stayed at my brother's in January on a couple of occasions and it's very hot. Childers was as far up as they lived but they're now down on the Gold Coast hinterland which is cooler. I understand why Qlders don't like DS. I reckon we have enough daylight hours to do what we need to do. If we're going to have DS it should be in winter when it's needed.

I recall the relief once night fell Yes. Yes! THIS! Thats what I've been trying to say; once nightfall comes and the sun goes down, the temperature drops and it becomes more comfortable, you can actually go outside and DO things that you can't when the sun is out. I remember as a kid playing Chinese Checkers with my parents on our front balcony after nightfall. Before then, you couldn't go outside. But with the sun going down made it more comfortable and it was nice to be outside at night-time, kids not too hot to run around and play, adults feeling a lot more comfortable too. The quicker night fall comes in summer, the more comfortable it is. That is the best time. Having the sun go down later achieves nothing whatsoever. I too, also agree that if its to be held at all, it should be in the winter months so as to achieve a uniform amount of daylight hours year round.

EG, do you understand that moving the clock forward means the sun is still up at night when it wouldn't be? Do you know that generally with the sun, especially in summer, that brings heat? Whereas nighttime brings a drop in temps? Surely even you can figure out this one. Use your your brains. PS when students walk home from school at 3pm, its 2pm normal time. Around 2pm, is when UV rates are at there highest. There is a reason the Queensland Cancer Council is against ds..... Only in Qld could you make dumb statements like that. ;D

My statement is one of common sense. And backed up by science and by experts. Too bad you lack the brains to understand it, and make the mother of all dumb statements. ;D

You deny the whole REASON for daylight saving? You deny that with the sun going down the temperature drops? ;D Do you even knowe what daylight saving is? Because you've just denied the very reason it exists and you don't even know you just did it. Your post is a keeper. ;D
