Dickheads ;D
Fine for unions but not for bosses:
A SECOND major union has admitted employing overseas workers on 457 visas, with the Maritime Union of Australia revealing last night that foreign workers had been engaged from “time to time” by the union.
Employers and the Coalition yesterday accused Transport Workers Union leader Tony Sheldon of “rank hypocrisy” after The Australian revealed he had recruited overseas workers to fill three key positions in his union…
The MUA ... said given the “international responsibilities” of Paddy Crumlin, the union’s national secretary and president of the International Transport Workers Federation, “there are occasions from time to time where international expertise is needed to support the secretary’s work"…
But the union would not say how many overseas workers had been employed on 457 visas and whether they were still working for the union.

The Labour movement does not use these visas to exploit the foreigners, nor does it use them to discriminate against Aus workers, their conditions or wages. The ALP government is out to nail those who use the visas for improper purposes, i.e., al those exploitative capitalist bastards. They are the ones to accuse of hypocrisy and of abusing the system.

I wonder what they will be doing with the nurses who come here on 457 visas and help to man our seriously understaffed hospitals and facilities? Will they be turned away?
We just don't have the numbers when it comes to student nurses. This is understandable because working is an option these days for young people. How many of those single mums who chose to hop onto the welfare gravy train as young teenagers could have trained to become AINs in our hospitals? Even ENs or RNs?
But no. Working remains an option and whilst that is the case our hospitals will remain understaffed. In the meantime we have a steady stream of foreign students from the third world coming to train as nurses or those who have completed their training and are ready to start working. I have a lot of experience with these nurses because over the years we have had quite a few doing their work experience and also part time work in our facility.
And I am unimpressed to put it mildly. Our standards are worsening as Australian nurses leave the industry in droves and more of these 3rd world nurses take their place.
What a dilemma! I think life's too easy for some here and that attitude will be our downfall.

Have to agree life is fairly easy for those choosing a welfare lifestyle.
Unfortunately things will get worse under a Abbott government who will undermine wages so that the dole is a better option than working in health services.

I cannot see that living on welfare is a bed of roses at all. We live in a society were so many get depressed and marginalised that welfare is where they end up: disillusioned, depressed, ill, and desperately unhappy. I have seen this where I live and it seems to be a growing concern

Good grief!! The obvious answer to all that lack of self esteem and depression is, wait for it, work! Now don't go telling me there isn't any work because Juliar and Swan are continually telling us that they have created thousands of extra jobs. Plus cancelling 457 visas will ensure that there are 10s of thousands more! So the obvious solution to boredom - which in itself creates depression - is to fully occupy themselves in contributing to the economy through working and paying taxes. What a unique solution! Unless you want to put them on one of your mental health "plans" of course.

Yes work Stella may be one snit dote but sometimes things are not as simple as your black and white wold seems to think it is. Plans I am sure could help, and I suggest you get one organised, in your case for a price, quite hefty I imagine, given your high income....(.I doubt you will avoid the super tax, but you will help the other less well off worthies of Australia.)
