Title: Police confirm Australian solder killed in Burnham crash 5:22pm - 16th February 2013 Christchurch Police have confirmed that the man killed after being struck by a truck and trailer on SH1 near Burnham early this morning was an Australian soldier. The name of the deceased is not currently available. Police say the man was struck at around 12.30am today [Saturday 16 February] by a truck and trailer unit travelling north on SH1, north of the intersection with Aylesbury Road and Burnham Road. The man is believed to have been walking on SH1. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have interviewed the driver of the truck and trailer. Investigations into the crash are continuing but Rolleston Police say initial indications are that the death was accidental. probably drunk at 12.30 am or maybe he threw himself in front of the truck because he was suicidal... or maybe the truck driver didn't see him because he had dark clothing on...
