The U.K. is the one country, due to its strong common law system which upholds European Union law, and does not break it. Other E.U. member states on the other hand break regulations and agreements.
The whole reason why the eurozone is in such strife is because the weaker states such as Greece do not have the legal systems ir frameworks / traditions and conventions to stick to agreements.
Why should the U.K. stay in a union which is unfair, where it sticks to the law, while other member states do not?
This is what David Cameron is talking about... the E.U. institutions are not democratic, and the laws and regulations of the E.U. are a dogs breakfast.
Britian is upfront, they negotiate before agreeing, while some other E.U. member states agree and then exempt themselves / break agreements.

Not to mention the several million UK nationals who take advantage of Britain's EU membership to live & work on the continent. Holland, France, Spain are full of expat Brits who have bought property and relocated. I heard in Holland only 9 months ago when I was there on a family visit and spent an afternoon with a few of my Gen Y relatives - i.e. adult kids of first cousins who now have kids of their own - the husband of one of them is a Brit and they live in a very nice house not far rom Utrecht. He's learned Dutch and speaks it fluently - first time I've spoken in Dutch to a Pom! He tells me hat the smart real estate money is going into property at the mouth of the Danube, on the Black Sea coast in Bulgaria. Not only that there's a lot of new wines coming on the EU market. Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria have always produced wine but the EU never saw it while those countries were behind the Iron Curtain. But now they're in the EU ...
