Labor concedes defeat as LNP candidate Cameron Caldwell is projected to win the Fadden by-electionPosted 37m ago37 minutes ago, updated 13m ago Labor has conceded defeat in the Fadden by-election with LNP candidate Cameron Caldwell projected to win the Fadden by-election. The Coalition has easily retained the Gold Coast seat in the federal by-election, triggered by the resignation of former frontbencher Stuart Robert. Mr Caldwell, a Gold Coast City councillor, beat out a field of 13 candidates to win the seat. Speaking at Labor HQ, Senator Murray Watt said the result is not a surprise. "We may have to keep fighting and we've achieved that objective so that a really great outcome," he said. Labor candidate Letitia Del Fabbro said she was proud in the campaign she has run. We knew this was always going to be an uphill battle, so I guess it has always been an important message to the LNP to not take the Gold Coast for granted," she said. Speaking earlier on Saturday, Gold Coast MP and senior coalition figure Karen Andrews said she was always confident that Mr Caldwell would be successful. Since the resignation of Stuart Robert in May, Labor has campaigned on his role in failed robodebt scheme. Ms Andrews says Mr Caldwell was well-recognised in the area and Mr Robert's track record has not been a factor. "There was no real mention of Stuart Robert at all," Ms Andrews told the ABC. "Cameron Caldwell's ID is very high, he's very well-known in the area, and I think people, quite frankly with the greatest respect to Stuart Robert, have moved on," she said. www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-15/fadden-byelection-gold-coast-cameron-caldwell/102592248

I dare say Labor would be unhappy with this result given the seat's link to the Robodebt fiasco.
I reckon Labor would have been hoping for a swing toward it.

You would think so, however Labor says the result is a “lethargic win.”

Yes, Labor are saying publicly 'nothing to see here' ... 'expected this result' etc ... privately, they will be disappointed with this result.
