My early years were war years, having been born in 1939 - and no - I wasn't the reason for WWII, even if some people think so. Churchill was a great War leader, though not so great a politician, and his past was questionable. A interesting book to read was by his 'bodyguard' Walter Thompson 'I was Churchills shadow'. written in 1951.
As a young teenager I stood in a crowd on the green in Westerham, Kent, UK as Churchill was electioneering. Impressive. Right where he stood there is now a statue of him seated, surveying the green. I lived about 3 miles from his Chartwell home and my father and grandfather (local Blacksmiths) made and fitted wrought iron gates for the estate. And visited Chartwell myself. Lovely place. And they had black Swans on the lake. Ooops I'm reminiscing.
