I was part of a conversation on fb yesterday where 3 Americans were talking about guns and showing children as young as 10 how to use them. One Australian (female) was also very much in favour but thankfully another Australian was as against it as me. We really are very fortunate to live in a country where firearms are not considered a normal part of our culture. Obviously if you live in a very dangerous neighbourhood in the US having a gun could save your life but for kids to be using them, especially hunting with them??.....no, bad idea all round.

Agreed. Guns have only one purpose; to kill. I don't understand why people would want to own a gun, let alone have children using them. I really don't understand Americans sometimes.

See this thread to learn where American “gun-culture” can ultimately lead....• In America, you can solve ANY problem with a gun

Kids in Qld as young as 12 can now learn how to shoot rifles. Education Qld has okayed the idea.

Yes, that's the one Jody. "the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia[1][2] and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_ConstitutionI can see that "self defense within the home" could be accepted, but I don't know what other traditionally lawful purposes there are. If no one was allowed to carry a gun outside their home, that would be a good thing.

I also sense in self defense in your home but yes, there should never be a reason to carry a gun on your person when out and about.
