Just went to coles, wanted avocados. The only ones available were hard and green.
So much for NZ providing good food... not!

Needed them for the avocado chocolate frosting which was going to go on my chocolate kidney bean cake.
The kidney beans are a flour substitute.

I was staying with friends up in Gisborne last weekend who have got an Avocado orchard.
I came home with a big bag of avocados....mostly green and hard, but that means they aren't all going to be ripe at the same time.
They're sitting in various fruit bowls in my kitchen at various stages of gradual ripening, although about six of them have ripened over the past few days.
I love avocado thickly spread on toast, then sprinkled with freshly-ground pepper. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I can eat avocado in very SMALL doses and only in other food. It is a little slimy for me.

At a wedding I attended near Gisborne last weekend, following the wedding ceremony itself, they served canapes and champagne in the gardens of the venue we were at while the official photographs were being taken (before the reception and wedding breakfast), and one of the dishes was puff-balls filled with fresh avocado. They were a real explosion of taste in the mouth and were absolutely delicious. I believe the avocados used were supplied by my friends, whose orchard is only half-a-kilometre down the road from the venue.

Woohoo....three more avocados have ripened overnight.
I'm going to make a batch of avocado & tomato sandwiches to take to work today (I start work in 3½-hours-time at 2:30pm and finish around 1:00am).
BTW....SUCK EGGS Matty-boy (I know you'll still be watching the group).

This is my favourite on toast...mashed avo, pinch salt, small spoon of sambal olek (ground chilli paste), squeeze of lime and a few drops of sesame oil
