Yeah, that is a problem with EVs ...
Hybrid vehicles would be the go in those areas.

He says he will never buy an EV. Here's another reason why .... It's a really scary proposition and I don't want one either! I could never trust them.

Yeah lithium fires are a massive problem. The other thing that bothers me about EVs is that some of them weigh almost 2 tonnes.
That's a lot of weight on the roads.
Trouble is that many car manufacturers are looking to go fully EV by 2026.
I think Hydrogen fueled cars would be a better option. Much lighter and way faster to refuel than recharging an EV.

Yep they weigh 2 tonnes and that makes steering difficult. Therefore it's a necessity to have power steering. I remember the first time I drove a car with power steering - it was way back in the 70s - we had bought a Fairlane which was way ahead of all the rest of the cars on the road. Those were big cars so it had power steering which takes a little getting used to at first - and digital dash. That was really great but what happens when you have an electrical problem? That happened once and it can be fairly scary driving at night with no headlights and no lights on the dash and not knowing what speed you're actually travelling. But that was easily fixed - not so with EVs. However losing power steering in an EV is a major problem! It means you won't be able to effectively steer your car because it weighs 2 tonnes! That will impact severely on elderly drivers, inexperienced drivers and incapacitated drivers. It can have life threatening consequences. Hence many of these EVs being recalled. Another major problem will be charging the batteries. A massive headache that will take up many hours of your week. I definitely wouldn't be doing it in my garage! These cars have caught on fire and burnt the house down. No thanks, I will not take the risk. I see nothing but problems with EVs especially in Australia where we travel long distances. So I agree hydrogen would be a better proposition. I just don't know what will happen if I have to get an EV. I hope it won't be too soon because my car is only 4 years old and hasn't travelled very far at all due to the lockdowns during the pandemic. We became homebodies in our isolation. I've only travelled about 17k and I'm not ready to give this car up yet!!

Same here. Mine is 5 years old and has done just 25,000 km. I hope we have more options in a few years from now. Being forced to buy an EV is not going to be enjoyable.

I will resist it to the end. I was looking at the latest edition of the NRMA's Open Road. They're 100% behind EVs. However I would prefer that they were more objective!! Anyway, here's the latest article - Pulling its Weight. Can an EV tow a trailer - they don't mention a caravan! - and how will that affect its drivability and battery range. Open Road hitches up in search of answers. Well I haven't bothered to read the article yet - too depressing. And I know they'll play down any problems because they just love these EVs. But I also know from the letters section, people are complaining about not being able to recharge their batteries without unhitching the trailer or caravan! The fact is - Australia is a big country. We travel long long distances to visit family. My sister is now living in Port Macquarie and one brother is on the Gold Coast hinterland - so it's not as if it's a simple trip like to the mountains. Sigh. I suppose it'll take about a week to get there considering all the hours - days? - to recharge. After all, if everyone has an EV, we'll be lining up for kilometres. Did I mention it was all so depressing?

If we aren't careful, we are going to end up like America if we aren't already there.
