So today Anthony Albanese announced his high speed rail policy, promising $500 million towards a line between Sydney and Newcastle.
If this goes ahead, isn't it the equivalent of the so called pork barrel politics that the ALP has been highly critical of the Morrison government over?
Me personally, I see it as a legitimate election commitment, which if delivered, even without an assessment, is perfectly fine. It is a promise which the community will vote on.
Just like the commuter carparks were an election promise of all the candidates which lobbied for them.

Nothing to see here, except Albanese sandbagging Hunter seats who are turning against the ALP due to their hatred of coal.

A 45 minute trip from Newcastle to Central (or is it still Broadmeadow as the main Newcastle station) puts Newcastle firmly within Sydney's orbit as an employment dormitory. That's interesting. Live in a beachside Newcastle suburb for a lot less than it would cost in Coogee or Maroubra and a 45 minute commute into Sydney. How many Sydneysiders would relocate? Of course if you already own a Newcastle property you'd be smacking your lips in anticipation.

Sure, I'm not against high speed rail. But I am against double standards. Why is it the ALP can make election promises but the Liberals are not allowed to?
Liberal candidates promised commuter carparks at the last election. They were built as an election promise. But this is somehow corrupt?

Were they actually built? And weren’t the car parks targeted specifically for Coalition held or marginal electorates? Are you seriously putting a fast train link that reduces commute time Newcastle-Sydney to 45 minutes in the same category of pork barreling and corruption as the car parks scandal and sports rorts? Really? This prosperity gospel plays havoc with your moral compass doesn’t it Mad Matt.

Labor seats have been missing out for years due to LNP pork barreling...and when its deemed something erstwhile as the high speed rail as pork barreling by Labor it shows the RW are just fucking insane ratbags.

Car parks electioneering promises list sounds awfully similar to Labor's vote for us list last election ... $2 million for 50 carpark spots at Officer Railway Station? Oh the hypocrisy!!! A Shorten Labor Government will invest more than $850 million to upgrade congested roads, create new jobs and slash travel times for residents in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs.Federal Labor will partner with the Andrews Labor Government to deliver this major infrastructure package to tackle traffic congestion and make Melbourne’s suburbs more liveable for families. Labor will help upgrade more than 300 kilometres of road, including: Adding an extra lane in each direction to Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road in Pakenham South, between Princes Freeway and Manks Road, with a new bridge over Deep Creek; Adding an extra lane in each direction to Lathams Road in Seaford, between Oliphant Way and Dandenong-Frankston Road, with a new bridge over the Peninsula Link; Adding an extra lane in each direction to Hallam North Road in Endeavour Hills, between Heatherton Road and James Cook Drive; Adding an extra lane in each direction to Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road in Cranbourne, between Thompsons Road and the South Gippsland Highway; Adding an extra lane in each direction to Pound Road West and Remington Drive in Dandenong South, between Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway, and building a new bridge over the Cranbourne train line; Upgrading Golf Links and Grant Roads in Langwarrin South, and upgrading the six-way roundabout at Golf Links, Grant, Warrandyte and Baxter-Tooradin Roads. Work on these six priority road projects will commence in early 2020 and be completed by 2025. In addition, a Shorten Labor Government will help duplicate Racecourse Road in Pakenham between the Princes Highway and the Princes Freeway, supporting the Andrews Labor Government’s work to remove all level crossings in Pakenham. This stretch of road is used by over 20,000 motorists daily. We want them moving, not stuck in traffic. Federal Labor will contribute $787 million to these upgrades.Beyond those seven priority projects, we will also contribute $65 million towards the completion of the upgrade and duplication of the 10.7 kilometre stretch of Thompsons Road between Dandenong-Frankston Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road. This will complement the removal of the level crossing near Merinda Park Railway Station. We will make sure that one in 10 of the jobs on the new project sites are filled by an apprentice – delivering training and job opportunities for young Victorians. Federal Labor will also invest $2 million to expand the parking capacity at the Officer Railway Station from 100 to 150 spaces. This funding will be delivered from Federal Labor’s National Park and Ride Fund, and matched by the state government. anthonyalbanese.com.au/media-release-labors-roads-upgrades-for-melbournes-south-east-sunday-24-march-2019There you have it gentle reader - Labor was willing to spend 3/ 4 of a $Billion to try to pick up one marginal seat (LaTrobe)

Obviously the numbnut turncoats cannot distinguish between needed infrastructure spending and blatant pork barreling from LNP governments.
The high speed rail between Sydney and Newcastle is great policy and here they are the insane are endeavoring to sneer at something blatantly positive for all.

It is a policy to keep those Hunter voters voting Labor, due to Labor's hatred of coal. I hope they don't fall for it.

Two years on, Scott Morrison is still leaving bushfire victims behind. His $4.7 billion Emergency Response Fund sits unused, instead of helping Australian’s who lost everything in the bushfires.
