Such a tragedy.
End of school year enjoyment ending with four kids dying from a jumping castle accident.
I wonder why it was not secured to the ground?

I wonder the same thing. It's not as if this hasn't happened before because it has and with many deaths and many more serious injuries. It's well known that these jumping castles are vulnerable in wind gusts! It's absolutely tragic that 4 more children have died and another 4 are in a critical condition. These deaths just prove that no one is taking any notice.

I can't stop thinking about it.
Those poor kids would have been having the time of their life, some fun before the school year ends... then injured and killed.
It is so unfair.

Sounds like they died happy. Hope it was quick.

What an absolutely horrible and insensitive comment! Another child has died leaving three now in a critical condition. These jumping castles will have to be banned until they come up with some way to secure them in case the conditions become windy. They lift off the ground - we've seen that happen many times with hundreds injured over the past 20 years - many fatally.

I don’t see it that way Stellar. Tragedies happen. Would you have preferred that they died miserably? I don’t shrug my shoulders at this sort of stuff. My parents lost two children before I was born. I never knew them of course but I grew up hearing about them. It was a large family and as one of the younger siblings I got to wear lots of hand me downs, some of them were clothes worn by my late brother. My family were no strangers to the tragedy of infant mortality. Insensitive? Not a bit of it.
If you want “insensitive” look no further than the media coverage and the age old principle of sloppy lazy Australian journalism: if it bleeds, it leads. They’re going to milk this one for all it’s worth.

I don't think they've been "milking" this story at all. What they have been doing is alerting every parent to the dangers of these jumping castles. I think everyone would know by now that windy conditions and jumping castles are a dangerous combination! And I don't think these children would have had a "happy" death at all! In fact it would have been extremely painful falling 10 metres to the ground! There have been so many injuries on these contraptions - such as children being thrown together and hitting heads that caused severe head injuries. The more these deaths and injuries are brought to the public's attention the better. This will lead to regulations imposed on the operators and owners and that has to be a good thing!

Now comes the blame game with its inevitable accompaniment, Ducking For Cover. Someone is going to announce an enquiry and the issue here will be the extent to which “enquiry” equals “whitewash”. I’m a bit hopeful on that score because of the way the Tasmanian premier … what’s his name? Looks German Jewish … Gutwein … appears to be handling it so maybe it’ll be an enquiry worthy of the name. Certainly there will be a coronial inquest and that won’t be up to the politicians. In fact treat a politician-ordered “enquiry” with the deepest cynicism and look to the coroner.
And don’t rely on the media! Communities are always “tight-knit”, politicians with their “thoughts and prayers”, families are always “devastated” … well of course they’d be “devastated”! What would you expect them to be? Light-hearted? Here’s another one for you: the “meeja” can always be relied upon to be “cliché-ridden” and “intrusive”.

Yes, tragedies happen, but we do not need to rub it into their faces.

Imagine if it was your child Pim... Standard technique to weaponise a tragedy by a sanctimonious hypocrite who grandstands on the board as a “Christian” but is clueless when it comes to Christian charity: make out that because I decline to sing in your tabloid chorus that somehow I don’t “care”. Newsflash: You don’t get to define “care” or “grief”. Nor do I of course but then I don’t seek to do so. Bullshit! Who’s rubbing it in “their faces”. You introduced the third person plural possessive pronoun so I’ll leave it to you to specify its referent. When it comes to “rubbing it in someone’s face” just watch the tabloid media grief squad - if it bleeds it leads. They’ll milk this for all it’s worth.

The fact those kids died happy will comfort those parents in the longer term, right now though, they will be at the worst level of pain imaginable, so bad there is no word that actually describes it. And that goes on for a year...

Those kids would have died petrified. Their last moments as the jumping castle lifted up and they fell to their death would have been so bad for them.

I've smashed into a road being knock out and hospitalised for a week, not only do I not remember face planting into bitumen I never felt fear coming off the bike.

Morrison is still better than the other liberal dopes. That isn't saying much though.

A total knee-jerk reaction in Tasmania today by banning jumping castles at school events. What is next? Banning kids from using the monkey bars because they might break their arm?
Yes, it is a tragedy, but before banning, perhaps find out if there was negligence?

Yes, it is a tragedy, but before banning, perhaps find out if there was negligence? They should be banned, they weren't secured to the ground. The Tasmanian education department will be sued now. I doubt parents would let their kids use them after after this tragedy. The jumping castle business is finished.

Six kids dead now. This is an absolute tragedy but one that could have been avoided if that jumping castle had been tethered to the ground! Yet the police are not answering any questions as to whether it actually was tied down or not. Just that it is part of the investigations. But you'd assume it should have been.

There will be the mother of all coronial enquiries to come out of this. Doubtless the cops are under strict orders from the coroner to proceed with their investigation, gather evidence and prepare a brief of evidence for the coroner. Part of their operating instructions from the coroner would be to say nuttin’ to nobody. Especially the meeja. Kapeesh?
