Just wondering; does anyone know if there is a difference between Christening and Baptism?

Baptism can also mean baptised in the spirit.....something that is done when you're a bit older. I never had my kids christened...they were dedicated as babies and then baptised with water when old enough to understand it. Though my son of course doesn't understand, I am his mother and make decisions etc for him.

In traditional Christianity you become "christened" - i.e. you become a Christian - through the act of baptism. The word "baptize" is from Greek and it means to "dip" or "immerse" in water. So in languages like Dutch and German which don't tend to borrow from Greek or Latin like English does, and which have words derived from their own languages, they actually say that a child gets "dipped" when they mean "baptized". So they call John the Baptist "John the Dipper" (Johannes der Taufer).

There is an apocryphal story about Bertrand Russell, a most famous and extremely cerebral British atheist of the mid 20th century the Christopher Hitchens of his day, which runs something like this:
As Bertrand Russell lay on his deathbed he realised that his last moments had arrived and he asked for a particular Catholic priest who had been a frequent intellectual sparring partner of his in the past. The priest, thinking that Russell was on the point of making a deathbed conversion, rushed to be at his side, bringing all the oils and potions that Catholic priests bring when administering the Last Rites.
But this was to be no deathbed conversion. When the priest arrived at Russell's bedside, Russell, summoning his last reserves of strength and willpower, raised his head from the pillow, looked the priest in the eye, declared "There ... is ... no ... God!" and fell back dead.

Slarti, you can't be unbaptised....sorry, you are a christian dear boy I had no say in being christened/baptised. Is that how religion works? Try to brain-wash them before they can speak? Well, it didn't work with me. I grew up and thought for myself and discovered that the bible was a crock of rubbish and that there is no such thing as any God. The rest of you should try it. ;D

That's not the delusion I was referring to. You are still under the mistaken belief that "responding" and "discrediting" are the same thing.

Religion is the following of and believe of in a god (any god, there are soooooooooooooo many to choose from).
Us Atheists do not follow or believe in ANY god. Therefore Atheism is NOT a religion!
Is that simple enough for even you to understand?

Religion is the following of and believe of in a god (any god, there are soooooooooooooo many to choose from). Then by your definition: Zen Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Jainism cannot be considered religions, since they don't believe in any gods either. ...But guess what? THEY ARE!!!!! ;D Maybe there is something wrong with your definition. Is that simple enough for you to understand?

And yes, while a deity exists for Taoism, belief in the deity is not a requisite for becoming a Taoist, or following the Taoist religion.--That's where your definition fails. You've also misrepresented Jainism. They don't believe in a deity as such, they hold that every living thing is sacred because it is alive. As for Buddhism you are wrong also. - devas, asuras, animals, humans, hungry ghosts, hell-beings - are viewed as representations of various transient mental states, not deities.. I failed to mention that these are only a few examples of godless religions. There are literally hundreds that I haven't even mentioned yet. Read up before you make further ignorant pronouncements.
