Why shouldn't we accept Australian citizens? This is their country. What happens if their visa runs out in the country that they were in?
Covid-19 is not a massive problem. We can manage it. We need to do better by getting the at risk groups vaccinated.
It is not acceptable that we have people under the age of 70 lining up for the jab when only 50 percent of the above 70 age group have not even had one dose.

Just remember a piece of paper doesn't make you, 'Australian,' and we cannot cope with a virus that at anytime could turn into a MAJOR catastrophe killing doctors and nurses. You and I don't have to nurse the very coronavirus sick but they will have to nurse them. 500 medical people died in India recently and that is what your way of thinking could bring to our very shores. Gladys is WRONG on thinking she can manage this disease. My relatives and friends lives are far, far, far more important than dipsticks who willingly left Australia and now want back in on selfish grounds.

You don’t just “leave” Australia. You apply first. And only one in three applications to leave Australia is approved. This is not discretionary tourism, the majority of these people applied to leave temporarily on compassionate grounds. So they’re in India with the approval and the blessing of the Australian government and on the understanding that they would return within a given time window.
As for Toots’s racism: these are Australians. A piece of paper does make you Australian. I’ve attended enough citizenship ceremonies involving my refugee students to see what a proud day it is for these people. I was 10 when my parents swore the oath of allegiance to the Queen on my behalf in order to become Australian so I remember the occasion quite well. They were presented with the hard cover bibles that they swore the oath on, each one embossed on the inside with the coat of arms of the local council signed by the mayor. They don’t do that anymore, more’s the pity. Those bibles had pride of place on display in my parents’ house for the rest of their lives. They were “Australian by choice” and proud of it. My sister got those bibles after my parents passed away. Ahh jealousy! Still I’d prefer that the two bibles be kept together rather than split up.
In any case the situation has evolved since this thread got started and those people are being repatriated. The issue now isn’t the Australian citizens stuck overseas in a dangerous situation. The issue is the lack of fit for purpose quarantine stations in Australia and section 51 (ix) of the Australian Constitution places responsibility for quarantine squarely at the feet of the federal government. This government always plays catch up and they always have to wait, delay and blame shift until a situation becomes so bad that they finally have to get their arses into gear. They have two jobs this year: the vaccine rollout and quarantine. They’ve blown it on both counts.

All the dogs I have owned either were stray refugees or came from detention centers (Pounds)...all without papers and no matter where I have roamed in the world all dogs bark in the same lingo.

In NSW and Sydney its give the people fair warning to stock up on provisions then lock em down, travel out of designated areas and its hefty fines and most comply....in Melbourne its flee like rats and were the majority of anti vaxxers roam, fine and lock up penalties need to increase rather than spreading disease.

Matt, I urge you to go to Melbourne. I'm sure you'd know a way to smuggle yourself down there through your contacts in the Sky News After Dark financed "Resistance". Pop up in Melbourne. Lead the demonstrations. Defy the social distancing requirements. Mock the mask. Spurn the vaccine. Do a repeat of January 6 (Washington DC,) by storming the quarantine hotels. Cough at the police. Then play the martyr as you get arrested and they throw the book at you. And do it all in your own name, not as an anonymous keyboard warrior. I'll watch you on television from my interstate comfort zone as I prepare for my second AstraZeneca vaccine a fortnight tomorrow.

Spot on! You may not like Andrew Bolt, but can you disagree with his opinion here? We need all the over 70 age group to get the vaccine, only 50 percent of them have turned up for their first dose. Andrew Bolt: Brett Sutton is now a public health liabilityBrett Sutton misled us about how this “beast” of a virus was infecting people — proving we need a better qualified person in his job.By Andrew Bolt 6 JUNE 2021 HERALD SUN What kind of a virus is terrifying Victoria and locking down Melbourne for two weeks? One that can’t even kill a 99-year-old. In fact, the virus strain hyped by Victorian chief health officer Brett Sutton as an “absolute beast” has not managed to kill any of the three residents of an aged care centre that it has so far infected. The trio – ages 99, 95 and 79 – aren’t even symptomatic. That’s astonishing, when two thirds of the 910 Australians who died last year were in nursing homes. The difference this time: All three residents were vaccinated. That’s the good news. The bad news: Anti-vaxxers still aren’t likely to admit they were wrong. That’s because Victoria just proved to them they’re right not to trust the health officials telling them vaccines are safe. That is what makes Sutton now a public health liability. Compare Dr Allen Cheng's qualifications against the hipster Professor Sutton: research.monash.edu/en/persons/allen-chengI wonder if Sutton got his job because he is more "trendy", having volunteered for international charities? Volunteering overseas should mean sweet F all. He isn't the most qualified voice in the room. It is why other experts have been critical of him.

It doesn't. They are not Australian. ^^^ See that people .... that's what he thinks of Australians who defends other REAL Australian's (who were actually born on Australia soil) and their health and jobs. As long as you flood the country with worthless darkies bringing life threatening diseases, that is OK with him. Your Aussie health is no concern of his,... nor are your empty pockets.

That’s it Toots, dig in on your racism. Double down on your nativist bigotry. I could name those who agree with you and who doubtless will be quite vociferous and vocal in their own nativist snake oil; I could name those who are as revolted as I am by your white supremacist bullshit, and at least one who is too poll obsessed and too busy stroking his franking credits to give a stuff. I’ll just go on volunteering with refugee support organisations and attending their naturalisation ceremonies - on their invitation. I know what a proud occasion it is for them. I helped a 20 year old Afghan man today with his business studies course, basically by proofreading his business plan to iron out English language glitches. Three years in Australia and he’s putting together a business plan and is prepared to push the envelope and take risks in a language that he couldn’t speak three years ago. An outstanding addition to this country? You’d better believe it. Or the state Governor of S.A who just completed his 5 year term and who originally came here as a 12 year old boat person refugee.
I’ve always said that there’s a future Australian prime minister among these refugees. Perhaps even the first President of an Australian republic. We’ve had Olympic champions, corporate giants and renowned scientists. Now a state governor. It’s only a matter of time.

They should be fined the maximum for what they did! They deliberately went through NSW via the back way into Queensland at Goondiwindi to avoid detection at the Gold Coast. Today show host Karl Stefanovic called for couple to be named and shamed. They deliberately lied. They escaped lockdown when they were not allowed to leave Melbourne - or even travel 5 km from their home! They should be jailed for their deception which has put hundreds of people at risk of contracting the virus. And even though the woman was displaying symptoms, they still went into cafes and supermarkets, other stores and servos in many towns they travelled through in NSW. Even spent about 4 days at a motel and went to cinemas and other places where they could have infected so many others. It's scumbags like these Victorians who should be made examples of! Especially when the majority of Australians haven't had the vaccine yet.

Yep, what a pair of ratbags. Meanwhile ... A second person dies from blood clot after AstraZeneca vaccineBy Roy Ward Chief Medical Officer Professor Paul Kelly says clotting events are still ‘extremely rare’ after a second Australia died from a blood clot after having the AstraZeneca vaccine. Professor Kelly said more than 3.6 million doses of the vaccine have been administered in Australia with only two deaths. NSW Health announced today that a 52-year-old woman died from a clotting event, Professor Kelly said the woman had the vaccine a couple of weeks ago. “I will point out that this remains an extremely rare event to get these serious clots,” Professor Kelly said. “But when they happen, as we’ve seen in this case, it can have tragic circumstances so my heart certainly goes out to the family and to all the friends and colleagues of this particular person.” www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/victoria-covid-live-updates-melbourne-prepares-for-restrictions-to-ease-as-case-average-falls-queensland-records-one-new-covid-19-case-in-victorian-traveller-20210609-p57zkd.html
