(at this point Pim quietly leaves the thread, closes the door softly and leaves Matt to his mansplaining about cougars to a doubtless appreciative Toots who surely is hanging all agog on every word - lol) haha... ^^^ and that made me burst out laughing.

It has been announced that around 60 percent of over 70s have had at least one dose. That figure is not high enough for that age group.

If only we had Tony Abbott as our Prime Minister. We would have a reasonable and measured response to Covid-19.

I think what he had to say was very common sense. Try and disagree with what he says on Covid-19.

Abbott stated the obvious...once countries have been vaccinated then life can resume to a normal...nothing profound new in that.
ScoMo has fucked the vaccine roll out is what he should have stated.

Abbott stated the obvious...once countries have been vaccinated then life can resume to a normal...nothing profound new in that. ScoMo has fucked the vaccine roll out is what he should have stated. But Scott Morrison has changed his mind and has said that vaccine rates won't determine when the border reopens. This is why we would be far better with Abbott in charge, at least we would have an idea of when things will go back to normal.

Abbott was a nasty divisive PM...his thinking is archaic, there was nothing positive about his leadership, manage covid...your delusional, I think you should crawl out of the darkness of your conservative hole you have fallen into and come back to the light.

I never believed this was ever about Covid-19. People in power rarely waste a good crisis.
Just watch... Covid-19 will be the scapegoat when the world goes to shit.

The over 70s are holding out on being vaccinated, even though the vaccination program is mainly for them. If the over 70s did not exist, the world wouldn't have desperately needed a Covid-19 vaccine. This is why the federal government needs to be clear and give a definitive date on reopening the international border. There are enough AstraZeneca vaccines to vaccinate the over 50s, so the countdown should start. Nothing like a bit of fear to get people through the doors. ‘People are shopping around for preferred vaccines’: Rollout causes problems for GPsBy Lucy Carroll and Mary Ward June 17, 2021 SYDNEY MORNING HERALD Doctors warn that people who are shopping around for vaccines outside their eligibility could drag out the vaccine program, with the number of people in NSW over 50 who have received a first dose lagging behind the national average. Royal Australian College of General Practitioners president Dr Karen Price says there were “inequities” in the vaccine rollout, with some people getting Pfizer who are not eligible while others in remote communities aged 40 to 49 are still waiting. “The majority are doing the right thing but some people are shopping around for preferred vaccines outside the national eligibility guidelines. Many of these vaccine consumers are the over 50s who want Pfizer but who aren’t eligible. They are creating trouble for GPs,” said Dr Price. “We need to be stronger with our message on who is eligible” FULL STORY: www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/people-are-shopping-around-for-preferred-vaccines-rollout-causes-problems-for-gps-20210616-p581fa.html?btis

Matt, you've got so much fear, panic and hysteria that you spread around that the rest of us can be models of rational, sensible good sense and it makes no difference.

Matt, you've got so much fear, panic and hysteria that you spread around that the rest of us can be models of rational, sensible good sense and it makes no difference. The medical experts are worried about the over 70 age group. Thet say forget about a 70 percent vaccine rate, they say that 100 percent of the over 70s need it.

You just worry about yourself Matte and stop telling everyone else what to do about having the vaccine. If you're so concerned about the vaccines on offer then maybe other people might also be concerned.
If fact it's the 20-40 age group who are the super spreaders - not the elderly who do not go out so much. So if you're in that age 20-40 group, YOU go out and get the vaccine! But then, you don't want to. So stop being so hypocritical.

But then, you don't want to. So stop being so hypocritical. In NSW, it is only available to the over 40s. But the biggest point is, if I contracted Covid-19, like most people my age, I would likely only have a very mild case. So it doesn't really matter if I take the vaccine or not. For the over 70s, that is a different story. We shouldn't have to keep locking down for the over 70s, especially when they have an option to protect themselves. There comes a time where they have to decide what is important to their own health without relying on everyone else going into lockdown. If they don't want the vaccine, fine, don't get it. But that is a personal decision and risk. But their personal decision should not impact on the freedoms of everyone else now that there is a vaccine that provides almost 100 percent protection against a severe Covid-19 infection.

Immunisation panel recommends raising the age for AstraZenecaBy Rachel Clun Australia’s expert immunisation panel is recommending AstraZeneca should now be given to people over the age of 60.
The update is a change from the current advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation, which recommended the vaccine for people aged over 50.The AstraZeneca jab is now recommended for people over 60.CREDIT:EDDIE JIM Last week the Therapeutic Goods Administration revealed a 52-year-old woman had died after developing a severe case of the rare blood clotting side effect linked to the vaccine. At the time the advisory group confirmed AstraZeneca remained the vaccine of choice for over-50s. Nine news reports state and territory leaders have been told, and an emergency national cabinet meeting could be held in coming hours to discuss whether to alter the vaccine rollout. www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/victoria-covid-live-updates-restrictions-to-ease-tonight-in-melbourne-vaccinated-nurse-tested-positive-20210616-p581kh.html

People under 60 can now get the Pfizer vaccine.
It is still recommended that those who have had a first dose of AstraZeneca to get their second dose.

What's important is that people working in health occupations all get the vaccine. Staff at nursing homes are not yet fully vaccinated. All people working in the airline industry need to be vaccinated. Australian overseas airline staff were allowed to stay in their own homes instead of quarantining. As many of them lived on the northern beaches, they caused the outbreak and subsequent lockdown last Christmas over here on the peninsular. But because this is an insular peninsula, we didn't go spreading it all around Sydney!
A limousine driver who ferries airline staff around is the known source of the current eastern suburbs outbreak. These people are all out and about and visiting so many venues during a day. It was amazing just how many venues some of these people do visit! Some were eating out 3 times a day at cafes and restaurants whilst also shopping and visiting pubs and clubs.
Old people are not so mobile and active out and about in the community.

The NSW Government still has not released information as to whether the driver was vaccinated, or more importantly, followed the rules. There is a police investigation.

What is the clotting side effect? Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) is a blood clotting disorder accompanied by low blood platelet counts that can occur in rare cases after an AstraZeneca vaccine.
There have been 60 confirmed or probable cases of the syndrome detected in Australia so far. Of those, 22 patients remain in hospital, including four in intensive care, and 36 patients have been discharged from hospital. Two deaths have been linked to the syndrome.
Symptoms of TTS generally occur between four and 30 days after vaccination and include a severe or persistent headache or blurry vision, shortness of breath, chest pain, leg swelling, persistent abdominal pain, unusual bruising and small round spots that develop beyond the site of vaccination.
Anyone who develops those symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/doctors-warn-over-50s-cancelling-appointments-despite-expert-second-doses-are-safe-20210617-p581wy.html
