We need to be ready within months, not years!
China is about to 'test Joe Biden's resolve' over Taiwan
9 FEBRUARY 2021
SKY NEWS AUSTRALIA
President Joe Biden and allies in Asia and the Pacific will have to face the reality of China attempting to take control of Taiwan “not just in three years but three months,” according to the Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s Peter Jennings.
A report by an Australia Defence Department official revealed it was “highly likely” Xi Jinping’s regime would take over Taiwan in 2024 depending on the result of Taiwan’s presidential elections.
The report warned that an amphibious assault on Taiwan’s shores is unlikely but insisted China would use “all means short of war” to achieve its goal.
Mr Jennings told Sky News an amphibious campaign would “lead to war pretty quickly” between China, and the US, Japan, and other key regional allies.
“China will adopt a slower, more cautious strategy than that; taking a step seeing what happens, I think that would involve blockading the straits, it’ll certainly involve coercing businesses not to operate in Taiwan,” he said.
“There’s probably quite a considerable Communist Party 5th column in Taiwan that will rise when Beijing gives it a signal”.
Mr Jennings said any attempts by China to take control in Taiwan will present a significant test for President Biden.
“I think that’s the challenge we’re going to face not just in three years, but in three months,” he said.
“Xi Jinping is very keen to use Biden’s first year to test the president’s resolve on this issue. Xi Jinping has really been ramping the pressure up at all levels in a military sense in an economic and rhetorical sense.”

Trump the inciter of violence is responsible for the counter productive breakdown in the US China relationship that also embroiled negativity with Australia's relationship with China.
Biden now has to endeavour to restore the relationship back to normal, compete while working cooperatively with China to help underdeveloped countries move from coal and oil energy to renewables in combating the most serious threat to the planet...climate change.

"The western world" ... as if "the western world" is a homogeneous entity that acts as one and responds as one. What a comforting myth that has "Cold War" written all over it and harks back to a halcyon age when "the western world" stood against the "evil empire" of the Soviet Union.
Thing is that back in the days of the Cold War the "western world" was just as much of a myth as it still is today. Not everyone in "the western world" shares the lock step view that you promulgate Matt. In fact most "western" nations reject that worldview out of hand.
I never thought I'd hear myself channeling Margaret Thatcher in response to your"western world" bullshit Matt but here goes: once upon a time at a press conference at which journalists kept challenging Margaret Thatcher's policies and asking questions about the effect of her policies on "society" Thatcher got stroppy and demanded that the journalist explain himself: "What is this "society" that you're talking about?" challenged Thatcher. "There is no "society", only individuals making choices" or words to that effect. For the first time ever I think she might have had a point. You've ruined my day!
