That cartoon is so damn stupid - and basically it ignores the facts. The only govt nursing homes are in regional Victoria whilst the vast majority of private/not for profit nursing homes are in city and urban areas. It is after all a business and it's just too expensive to run a business in lower density rural areas.
Then you have to look at the "nursing" staff in those nursing homes. For a start, they aren't nurses. They're carers - unqualified staff who work for low wages - some full time but most part time. Many of these carers are anything but. Many won't wash their hands. Need I say more?

You have hit the nail on the head Stellar, it is the way private and non for profit are staffed, casualisation, the way shifts are allocated, bullying people and other factors for making working conditions poor and workers on their knees.

My sisters were careers and then changed to the kitchens. They supply me with PLENTY of stories about age care homes... including whole trays of beautifully cooked chicken parmesan going in the bin. Those places are luxury hotels and the food waste would make you cry.
Anyway... the careers are usually foreigners these days like Filipinas and they're pretty good with the oldies but one of my sisters have witnessed them ignoring a buzzer for 45 minutes causing an old man to shit the bed just before his relatives showed up. 45 minutes he was trying to hang on.

Yeah, that's the experience seen at the aged care facility where my Mum was. Chronically understaffed and taking way too long to respond to call buttons.

Wow!
Stage 4 in Melbourne is getting pretty serious now.
A curfew from 8.00 pm till 5.00 am
Only one person allowed out to shop per household within 5 km of home.
Only 1 hour of exercise no more than 2 people together within 5 km of home.
All classes back to remote learning from Wednesday.

Thanks to the the fat fucks like Palmer and Morison and that NSW big nosed slackwit who want economies opened far too soon. They welded up the doors to high-rise building in China making sure no one escaped quarantine. And in India, police have huge sticks to beat disobedient into line.

There is bound to be wastage of food in any facility, prisons, army kitchens,...funny enough old people get sick, or now again allowed out with family so not there to eat lunch or dinner..which has little to do with understaffing, where at night there a ratio's of 1 staff to 40 residents, nightmare stuff if there is a sickness like dysentery running rife. The casualisation and treating staff like robots has turned around to bite age care on the bum.
Business has to realise that some one say going to lunch may result in their death.

My sister told the chef off saying the oldies say, "that's too much for me to eat," and of course they are correct but by LAW, the chef told my sister the oldies HAVE TO be served 120 grams of protein every day. Who in their right mind want to go into places already raging the virus? No one. There are not enough volunteers. Arseholes like Clive Palmer and Snotnose Morison should be made to go serve soup and change their diapers....

A restaurant would have food wastage...that's the way it goes.
Whether old folk eat what dished up, a 120 grams is supplied as a duty of care, it is provided to have a balanced diet that nutritionist determine what is above starvation level.
Cannot have the attitude, 'well they are not going to eat it, so why bother providing food'...what are you suggesting ...save money in age care by not providing food.
A parent still provides meals to a child although the child may not eat all what is given, that is a duty of care.
Volunteers were used to assist the old folk then companies started to reduce staff and staff time. Volunteers can assist in being companionship but cannot work in areas they are not trained in such as simple things like feeding people has issues, or lifting people or in showering or toileting people.
Problems in aged care are not the chef's or staff, it is companies treating staff like shit...easily replicable automatons is the attitude, which makes for workers why bother doing a good job when your employer has the attitude you are disposable.
Then Australian workers say fuck working in the care industry and so companies hire cheaper Filipino workers with poor English.
That's neo liberalism for you.

Old people don't want to eat... they're not little kids or middle aged workers and they don't want food shoved down their gobs... He's an idea... ask them what they want. Gee, that might be a novel idea eh? They'll probably say, an egg on toast and a cup of tea.... or something equally as simple. I agree about people who run the places. But whether you are a career, a nurse, a kitchen hand, or a boss, it's a horrible job.

Wife worked in aged care as a AIN for many years before retiring, and says the job was rewarding until they made stepped changes until it was all profit driven and staff were allocated 6min per resident, that's get them up, washed showered and then out for breakfast.
There are set menus, then multiple choices were on the menu and salads. Fried eggs were not popular because food had to be raised to a set temp which means a fried egg was in effect way over cooked, so its more scrambled eggs or omelets. All on a pitiful budget that was never increased.
Family could also take their old folk out for a nosh, though that is awkward if residents are suffering dementia or bed ridden.

I wish the police could use huge sticks down here to beat the disobedient into line! Right at the moment my poor younger son is down on the border preventing those moronic Melburnians from attempting to escape into NSW. It's bloody freezing down there. And not only that, he has to go back down there next week as well. Honestly, if some of those wretched scumbags got a good beating for their efforts, they might think twice. Fines won't do it.

Exactly. They won't pay their fines anyway. I have an American e-friend who is married to an Aussie and lives in Victoria. His son wrapped himself around a tree doing 80 kms through fog... They had to cut him out of the car. Consequently, breaking all his bones and turning his brain to scrambled eggs, he's in a Melbourne hospital where staff all came down with coronavirus. I'm very worried for the family.

Today's weekly shop ... no minced meat, a few chooks no sausages, some pork ... Why, why do the hoarders strike every time a new phase of this virus situation unfolds? As for only one person from each household allowed to do the shopping? ... Seemed just as crowded as usual to me.

Another moronic Melburnian ... Why do these morons not wear masks? Why do they ignore the lockdown? If this is supposed to be a confronting image, all I can say is no wonder Melbourne is in a state of disaster! I can imagine she's saying I can't breathe. I think I'm with Ponto on this ... just shoot them!

What did the local PNG-ers do to deserve that? Think outside the square: send the anti-maskers to somewhere uninhabited by humans. Macquarie Island where they can frolic with the penguins and dive off the icebergs.

Preferably anchored to a submerged Island somewhere, anywhere..assuming as the virus doesn't spread underwater, along with Alan Jones who thinks it's leftist Marxist brainwashing teaching kids about climate change.
Conspiracist theorist need shootin'...!!!
