Stopped automatically checking for updates at 6am yesterday. I tried to manually run the update check but it's stuck with the green bar going on and on ad infinitum.
I've had this problem once before and fixed it but can't remember what I did. Any ideas?

From microsoft... " Windows 8.1 falls under the same lifecycle policy as Windows 8, and will reach end of Mainstream Support on January 9, 2018, and end of Extended Support on January 10, 2023. With the general availability of Windows 8.1, customers on Windows 8 have two years, until January 12, 2016, to move to Windows 8.1 in order to remain supported." Failing that... Have a chardy! ;-)

Well thanks for the advice but I fixed it 20 mins after posting and everything is running like clockwork.
Glad to know I have till 2023 for extended support in which case I will no doubt have another laptop with Windows 10 which I never wanted when it first came out because of the problems. But you can still get the free download if you want it.
ps ... chardonnay is old hat and has been since the late 90s. No one drinks it anymore ... the toffs have all moved on.

Nooo...still plenty being made and drunk, though the nice buttery chardonnays of years past seem to have given way to a less flavoursome more acidic brew I do like a good Sav Blanc, laced with passionfruit flavour, especially with spicy food Drier style Rieslings are becoming popular again and I have even seen Chablis and Chenin Blanc make appearances...now that's 80s for you! What's old is new again.... Oh, and glad you sorted your win 8.1 issue...are they still offering free upgrades to Win 10?
