Just asking, 'cause I've watched a few Liam Neeson movies and the dead bodies tend to pile up somewhat.

Well....I just finished watching The Commuter.
And you're wrong....it wasn't just one person who died.
I lost track of the body count.
But then again, it is a Liam Neeson film, so a high body count is par for the course.

Anyway, the ending to the film was a “load of shit” 'cause a train could never end up out of control with brakes inoperative like that.
All train braking systems world-wide, no matter how sophisiticated (such as electro-pneumatic, or twin-pipe graduated release, or any other advanced system) still use the original Westinghouse single-pipe automatic dating from 1872 as the basic safety system. If air pressure in the brake pipe is reduced from the set standard, the air brakes automatically apply on every vehicle in the train's consist. If the air pressure disappears from the brake pipe completely, then an equalised application automatically occurs whereby the auxillary air reservoir in each car gets connected by default to the brake cylinders on that vehicle and air flows from that reservoir to the brake cylinders until equalisation occurs....ie....the air pressure is equal in both the reservoir and the brake cylinders. Plus, most modern rail vehicles also have automatic park brakes, whereby powerful springs are prevented from applying the brake blocks onto the wheels, or brake pads onto brake discs by air pressure in that brake pipe (when vehicles are parked, a valve is manually opened which exhausts that air pressure acting against the springs and maintains atmospheric pressure in the park brake system until the park valve is manually closed). If the brake pipe pressure drops below full-service level (which is the same pressure which will result in an equalised brake application), then those springs are released to mechanically apply the brakes at full pressure.
Hence why the ending of that movie is a load of shit!!
