Matt kids need to be able to use their imagination. If you stifle that, you will do more harm than good.

Jody, Fat,
Totally agree it's OTT.
Matt, Do you know of anyone who is hacked off and has lost faith in their parents for permitting them to believe Santa was real as a young kid?
As a father of 3 Matt I can honestly say I've had no issues with the Santa 'deception' and the joy it brings to them and the look on their little faces is one of the blessings of parenthood.

Sub Manly Does your desert pixie celebrate Christmas with his wife Asherah and their 70 children the Elohim? The Zoroastrians made him get a divorce and get rid of his children - foreign wives and all that - but he can do what he likes now. I like to celebrate the birth of Attis of Phrygia my self. Its the same stupid story as Jesus. Nope that doesn't sound like anyone I've ever heard of. Sounds like something that came out of your work of fiction.

There are lots of people who think Christmas and Santa is a total crock. I am one of them. But for kids they need to go along and be like everyone else as much as possible. The way Matts going he will soon be an atheist. So you expect his IQ will drop that much, eh?

I will never lie about Santa to my child and I'll encourage him not to lie about this false god either. On this point we are agreed, Matt. We let my eldest daughter know right from the beginning that there was no Santa Claus, Tooth fairy, etc. But that doesn't mean we can celebrate the birth of Christ, even if it's only a mere representation of his arrival on earth.

Santa and "God". Pretty similar. A benevolent old chap who rewards you for following the rules, and punishes you for disobeying. There is a difference between consequence and punishment, Phil. I'll leave you to sort that one out.

..And you are wrong about the reward part, too. How 'good' do you think you have to be to appease a perfect being?
(I'll understand if distorting the issue is kinder to your theological palate, however.)

There is no perfect being. My missus comes close though.

Sorry to say this Earl but I really question if you were ever a Christian. I mean that not out of arrogance or disdain rather if you were a Christian and attended Bible College you would know that you are saved through 1) faith and 2) repentence. It is by grace you were saved not works 'so that noone may boast.' For someone who claims to have been a Christian and attended Bible College I find your complete misunderstanding of Christian doctrine puzzling. Ultimately it is not for me to judge that's between you and God but your doctrinal ignorance is surprising.

For ignorance, I point at those who are sucked in by believing in any God.

Nope that doesn't sound like anyone I've ever heard of. Sounds like something that came out of your work of fiction. YES YOU ARE A STRANGER TO REALITY AND MY BOOK FYI IS SELLING ALL AROUND THE WORLD So is the JW publication, 'The Watchtower' ; that doesn't lend to it's credibility.

For ignorance, I point at those who are sucked in by believing in any God. That's a pretty narrow view... Ignorant and narrow.
