over to Teltra. Optus just doesn't seem to improve as far as service goes.....so for 10 bucks more a month than what I am paying now....I will be sent a new wireless stick, Telstra Tablet and an iPhone 5...all with 4G and more all in all 14 gb a month. The tablet will be used at home as it will give me a hot spot that all of us can use in the house, the iPad will come with me when I go out. Seems like a good deal to me and I will have faster internet, better signal on my phone and more download.

Sounds like a good move Jody. We can't get mobile signal at all at home, let alone 4G. Actually, it's quite nice!

I get 60GB per month from Xtra in NZ.
I used to get 30GB per month and was never able to come anywhere near using it up, then a few months ago they doubled everyone's monthly allowance for the same price.

Geez, you'd never see Tel$tra doubling everyone's allowance for nothing! Telecom NZ (through their ISP subsidiary, Xtra) doubled all of their customers monthly allowance because Telstra Clear (a subsidiary of the Aussie Telstra) lowered their prices to undercut Xtra. So Xtra's answer was to leave their prices the same but double everyone's monthly allowance. I have workmates who had plans giving them 100GB per month (they had heaps of teenages in the house) and their allowance was doubled to 200GB at no additional cost. So now they go mental downloading as many movies and foreign television programs as they can get their hands on.

I felt very bad about it, but my team leader told me that I had to do it because my job was to maximise profits for the company.

So how did you actually rip old pensioners off, Matt?? Older people are gullible when it comes to technology, and most people used that when it came to sales. I no longer work for Telstra, I faced an ethical dilemma and I walked after 18 months.

My contract with Telstra comes up for renewal towards the end of the year. I have all my internet, mobile phone and landline phone bundled up in the one bill which I pay monthly. I forgot to mention the Telstra T Box on my television. That's $11 a month on top of everything else.
I'm seriously thinking of downsizing because I get these monstrous bills. Most of my calls these days are on my mobile. My daughters all live interstate and they always call me on my mobile and never use a landline phone. The only advantage of a landline is if you get put on hold. But apart from that most calls I receive on my landline are from call centres in Mumbai wanting to push some product or other which I'm never interested in anyhow.
So I'm seriously thinking of junking the landline phone and the T-Box, going onto a "dongle" for my internet connection and going onto a pre-paid arrangement for my mobile phone. I've done my sums and I think I can reduce my bill by at least 50%. And if it's possible to cut my telecommunications bill in half, then I'd be mad not to do so.
