Do the activities of al-Quaeda, the Taliban, Jemaah Islamiyah, the Moro National Front, Boko Haram, al-Shabaab and Daesh mean that Islam itself as a religion is to be repudiated, trolled on social media, slandered on talk back radio and tabloid print media, and become a target for dog whistle politics and demonisation by unscrupulous politicians?
I don’t think so and, judging by posts put up by both of you over the years, neither do you. I daresay there's no shortage of Muslim paedophiles. When I first read James A Michener's novel about Afghanistan, Caravans, written decades before anyone had heard of the Taliban or Osama bin Laden, and well before the Soviet invasion, in fact ages before anyone in the West talked about Islamic jihadism, he describes how tribal chiefs there would take a good looking boy as a sexual plaything. Grotesque as it sounds, and is, females are so suppressed that they have no identity as humans and walk around in that blue tent that they wear. They’re utterly desexualised so aren’t viewed as vehicles of sexual pleasure. So boys fill that role. It seems that in rural and feudal Afghanistan if a boy catches the eye of the local potentate the family is expected to give him up. He doesn't just perform sexual services, he can be dressed in frills and lace and is expected to dance to entertain and titillate. In short, he's feminised. Not good news for the females though. I've since read similar accounts in different sources. I also think Dateline, when George Negus ran it on SBS, did a piece on it. So I'm persuaded that it’s true. Is Islam as a religion to be judged by its worst adherents?
I know as well that there's no shortage of anti-science obscurantists who are also Muslim. Darwinism is condemned by these people as stridently as it is by people like the Exclusive Brethren. Does all of Islam stand condemned as a result? What do you say about creationism to an evolutionary biologist at a Western university who happens to be a Muslim? And what do you say about paedophilia to a social worker dealing with child abuse who happens to be a Muslim?
I carry no brief for the Exclusive Brethren. They’re deluded ratbags at best and at worst if they hurt kids then they're criminals and should be dealt with as such by the criminal justice system. But I don't use them as the yardstick by which I measure Christianity.

The reason religionists such as the Exclusive Brethren deserve to get pillioried is because they claim their religious convictions make them more moral than other people. So when they show by their actions that they are simply just another bunch of sexual sickos abusing kids, they deserve all the vitriol they get.
It's like the politician we had in NZ a few years ago who was the leader of a religious-right christian political party, and who spent plenty of time being judgemental about all sorts of things in society which didn't fit with his narrow-minded puritanical views. Then....he got arrested and charged with sexual offences against young girls and was convicted in court and sentenced to several years jail for his crimes. His name is Graham Caphill. Go and google him. Or better still, google him AND watch the following video clip....

From anybody apart from KTJ this would be an issue of deep concern that could lead to a productive discussion on the relationship between establishment Christianity and the secular justice system. If it were really an informed discussion it would explore how the evil of paedophilia is possibly the most profound moral and spiritual crisis within Christianity since the Protestant Reformation of 500 years ago. And if the discussion really wanted to drill down to the core issues it could debate whether or not the "problem" is the vow of priestly celibacy (I'd argue it isn't).
But no, this is nothing more than a cheap and nasty religion-bashing exercise from a troll that uses the evil and tragedy of paedophilia as a convenient vehicle for his trolling.
