Hard to believe that the movie depicts a notional "future" set in the year 2019. The movie itself was first screened in 1982 and the point of setting it in 2019 was that the dystopian future it depicted was not far off and would in all likelihood fall within the life spans of the majority of the audience. Problem with that is what do you do with the movie when the calendar year 2019 actually rolls around and the world isn't full of replicants and flying vehicles? Personally I love the movie. For those who are interested here's a link to an article in The Conversation that teases out some of the issues in the movie. theconversation.com/the-science-and-fiction-behind-blade-runner-46459

I enjoyed this movie too but it should have been set a little further into the future.
