Flying up to Sydney next week to see this, overlooking the Opera House. I have been wanting to see this opera for over twenty years!

Enjoy it.
I went to a performance by Opera NZ of Aida at the St James in Wellington a couple of years ago.
However, the most recent opera I attended was in Auckland last year and it was a real biggie....Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde.
The interesting thing about that opera is that Wagner stopped work on the Ring Cycle to knock out a short opera to generate some fast income. But things didn't entirely go according to plan and what eventually emerged was one of the grandest and most intense operas ever written, one of epic length. It isn't everybody's cup of tea though, you have to really like Wagner to get into the big-league of his works.

Well, it was spectacular...and worth the twenty-year wait. Sydney put on its best Autumn weather for the evening, deteriorating overnight to cool drizzle but by then it didn't matter.
Lion King in June is the next 'look forward to'...thankfully, in Melbourne so not so much travel (and expense!)
