I got a box of DVDs of various HBO series for Christmas and have been working my way through them. I'm up to Game of Thrones and am up to episode 5. Has anyone else seen it? Apparently it's achieved cult status. It's OK I s'pose. I guess I'm just not overwhelmed by fantasy and find the idea of a world in which summer and winter last for ten years each to be stretching the "willing suspension of disbelief" a bit too much. But hey, the acting and the camera work are good and the narrative is good enough to keep me watching so I'll try not to quibble too much.
I love the fact that the various English accents are used inappropriately is causing ripples among British viewers but the show's producers respond to the British quibblers with a shrug of the shoulders (it's an American show) and the throwaway line that "American viewers wouldn't pick up the differences anyway".
But I have a little quibble of my own about accents and I was wondering if anyone who has watched the show can help me with it. In season 1`there is an arranged marriage between the sister of an exiled dispossessed king and the barbarian chief in whose realm the erstwhile king was obliged to reside in. I won't complicate matters by reproducing the names and the (fictitious) nations. The hapless bride who is just a young teenager and who had no choice in the marriage has a slave girl who is a former prostitute and who mentors her in how to please her husband sexually. I can't catch the name of the slave girl and the credits aren't helpful in giving me the name of the actress. But I'm sure she's Australian. In my opinion her accent is a dead giveaway.
Can anyone help me here? Who is the actress who plays the slave girl who becomes the sexual mentor for the child bride of the barbarian chief?
