The first conclusion to be drawn from all this is Abbott's so-called "women problem" is real. It would not provoke such a response unless it was showing up as a serious issue in Liberal polling. One reason Abbott needs help from his family here is he does little to help himself. His initial failure to roundly condemn Alan Jones for foul, disgusting and unbelievably nasty comments about Julia Gillard's dead father was a case in point. Abbott put his "pick and stick" loyalty to a radio bully boy ahead of sensible politics. www.heraldsun.com.au/news/margie-abbotts-spirited-defence-shows-up-her-husband-tonys-image-problem/story-e6frf7jo-1226489463867

This "problem with women" is not very original. It is something that is used by most socialist types and that is why the Labor Party specifically brought out the same spin doctor to do a hatchet job on Abbott as he did on Cameron.
Same as Obama who so typically says that Romney is waging a "war on women." Obama was previously elected on the women's vote and needs that vote to get re-elected. So Obama accuses Romney of being "really out of touch with the average woman's health problems," yadda yadda yadda.
This spin doctor can spin as much as he likes, Roxon et al can bleat as much as they like, but Margie is correct - there isn't a "problem with women" at all.

The Abbott Family. We can expect Margie and her three daughters to be taking a higher profile in this election. One of the daughters is Frances, who went Outback with her father to build a school for an Aboriginal community. At the same time, the Scottish spin doctor Stella mentioned has decided that Tim Mathieson should remain in his Shed. No more will our First Bloke be waving (at whom?) from the ramp of departing planes. Apparently, he boards from the rear ramp before Julia does her waving.Attachments:

I've always wondered about that ... the sheer cheek of the gigolo waving to crowds and media as though he is the VIP or whatever.
Glad he has been consigned to the shed where he belongs.

"To bolster his argument that he has no difficulty with powerful women Mr Abbott, introducing his wife, declared his chief of staff Peta Credlin ''is in some ways the de facto deputy leader of the opposition''.
Am I the only one who thinks this was a gross insult to the Deputy Leader of the Opposition.........Julia Bishop?

Australia's First Bloke. Here is Tim in his glory days, before he became an unperson. What's your problem? Is it the marriage thing? Or is it the gender thing? If it's one or both, that's rather antediluvian of you, don't you think? Or maybe it's that you don't like Julia Gillard. Fair enough, there's no law that says you have to. I don't like the woman much myself but I acknowledge that she's PM of this country in terms that the Constitution says are OK and I have no time for all the personal vilification and demonisation of the legal head of government of this country. Let's face it nobody, but nobody, has even uttered a word about a high court challenge to the legality or constitutionality of the Gillard Government, and believe you me if there had been the slightest chance of such a challenge even getting a serious hearing, Abbott would have been into it like a rat up a drainpipe. But, I accept that you don't agree with me and that's your prerogative. You don't like Julia Gillard. OK, I get it. So what could be going on is this: 1. You don't have a problem with people living together de facto 2. You don't have a problem with a woman being PM 3. But you don't like Julia Gillard - and she's a woman and she lives with a bloke she isn't married to. So even though you don't have a problem with #1 and #2 you'll resort to slurs based on #1 and #2 just to score a few cheap and shabby points against Julia Gillard. Rather "Alan Jones" of you, don't you think?

(A lot of assumptions there.) The two partners are going to be hi-viz this election, more so than in any previous election I can remember. There's going to be a lot of discussion about the issue. As Margie et filles enter the spotlight and Tim is banished to the back of the plane, it will become even more interesting, and no amount of moralizing and blustering will shut it down.

If theres one thing the left can't bear the sight of its an old fashioned family like the Abbotts, maybe if they were a family of gay lesbian muslim dole bludging refugee terrorists on a disability pension they could get some respect from the labor faithful but otherwise family values like the Abbotts just creeps them out.

This thread began with Laurie Oakes sending out his weekly press release from ALP headquarters. Word has gone out from John McTergan to spread the word that "Abbott has a problem with women." After all, it worked with the UK election, didn't it ...?

Australia's First Bloke. Here is Tim in his glory days, before he became an unperson. Lol. Looks like we won't be seeing any more of these cheesy pics with an astonished Michelle Obama. In fact, Tim has become a diplomatic problem. As he is not a spouse, he has henceforth been given the cold shoulder and the White House baulked at hosting a "spouses" program for him. Needless to say, he didn't have any cosy meetings with Michelle Obama. But Gillard continues to flaunt the gigolo wherever her travels take her in defiance of protocol and in strict contravention of conservative societies. His banishment to the back of the plane is a step in the right direction.

Yep, this is the Alan Jones thread. Isn't there a country in the EU that has a lesbian PM who lives with her lover? I forget which one. Then there's the French President who lives with a woman he isn't married to. But who gives a rats! I put it to you again: you don't really have a problem with couples living de facto and you probably know and are friends with people who live in long term de facto relationships. I'd also bet that you don't really have a problem with the idea of a woman as prime minister. Your problem is with Julia Gillard. You don't like her. OK, I get it! So what you do is use the de facto thing and the gender thing as shabby slurs to cast at her. Taboid stuff, innit. Very Alan Jones, don't you think? Is it really the best you can do? Yeah, I guess it is ...

Are you refuting what I said? Are you saying that Tim is NOT a diplomatic problem? A protocol headache? Did the White House and Michelle Obama not give Timmy the cold shoulder??
Is everything I said somehow incorrect?
When you've worked that out, get back to me.

I've got it! The reason garfield has a problem with the board (since he's in exile from the far right fruitcake zoo where Batman, Robin & Catwoman dwell) is that we're not tabloid enough! He tries to inject a certain "Alan Jones" quality and it keeps falling flat. Oh dear ...
