You must get with the programme Pim. Choosing the next political party to form Government, apparently, revolves around how fast you want your internet to work.
But I must admit I'm a tad flummoxed here. My setup normally runs at around 12.5 gigaflugels per second, about half the speed quoted by the ISP. Okay, I can live with that. But the speed at which you can download something depends on the speed of upload from the other end? Is that not true? I might download something from the USA or Europe and it comes through at 0.027 gigaflugels per second because of the speed at the other end.
Does it mean that the NBN is going to give us "Rolls Royce quality, Ferrari speed" within Australia but we'll still be dealing with 1959 Ford Zephyr performance coming in from abroad?

Earl is right, most of the copper twisted pair is rotted. The copper into where I live is so degraded that I can't even get naked DSL. With fibre to the node, you loose a significant amount of capacity over the "mile" of copper, due to the state of the copper, as well as noise etc. FTTN renders the whole excersize pointless, IMO.
