Because, KTJ, and I hope you're paying attention here - that's the nub of the blackfella criticism of the lollipop left - especially the Greens. They accuse the Greens of wanting to reserve for the Aborigines a type of blackfella "mascot" role where they act as "rangers" in pristine nature "parks". When in fact many indigenous Australians want a slice of the "real" economy and they want the skills to be able to get it. It isn't just Labor people like me who see your ideologically blinkered ill-informed poliotical correctness as an obstacle to progress, it's a lot of indigenous people too.

sadly, due to a leftist ideal that aborigines should be allowed to booze on, we have the unsolvable mess we have today.
the aborigines, and other non-aboriginal people allowed to shoot up or booze on is our countries legacy for promoting a lack of self control. Self control, once promoted by the churches and discarded by the leftists, atheists and hypocrites that is....
we made this mess... and now no one can fix it....
so, those of us with a good clean conscience must resolve to live with it...

It was a Queensland Labor Government which banned alcohol from communities.
It is a Northern Territory Conservative Government which is removing an important part of the intervention which prevented anybody with an alcohol or violence related criminal conviction from buying takeaway booze.

Mistakes were made in the past with Aboriginal folk, such as miners and farmers driving them off their traditional lands where they lived not only a life of hunter gathering but also custodians of their land, and reduced to living on welfare.
That has to change with reconciliation, self determination and a helping hand to see that the kids are brought forward and out of the cycle of welfare, drug and alcohol abuse and the deprivation that goes with addiction.
Not an easy thing to fix a people taken away from their land, taken away from the parents with the aid of the church, given welfare instead of employment opportunity and education, that will all take time to heal, what is require by all Australians is understanding not a prejudice bigoted agenda of why should they get more than me attitude displayed by white folk.

Give back ALL land stolen from the original inhabitants of Northern Territory and remove ALL bactaria, viruses, introduced pests, alcohol, etc, infested on the land by whitie and I'm sure the descendents of the original inhabitants will be able to look after themselves in the traditional manner as practised for many thousands of years before whitie came along. yeah, heres the thing...the more land we gave back, and its a fucken shitload of land, funny thing, doesnt seem to make any difference , more like things get worse.
