If this man is found guilty, should he be released into the general prison population and not be eligible for protective custody?
I mean, he is a big boy, he shouldn't need solitary confinement for 23 hours a day!

Once, when I was in prison, I overheard a group of bad guys talking about what they were going to do to a new arrival who had raped a 13-year old boy the week before. Being the snitch that I am, I immediately reported the news to the officer on duty. He yawned and said "I wouldn't mind having a go at him myself." Oh well, I thought ...

Even criminals have their own laws and codes of ethics and morals. When you're below that, well you know you're a sub-human.

Yes he does, the expression is almost incoherent - garfield seems to be incapable of expressing himself above the level of grunt and inchoate rage - but buried in among all the bogan babble and sloganeering there is a point about the historic crimes of organised religion, and crimes committed in the name of religion . Of course garfield shits on his own argument with his simplistic reductionism by trying to argue that Christianity is nothing other than hypocritical and is incapable of being otherwise. Nevertheless it is true that Christianity came from being a despised minority in a hostile pagan majority universe to being the only religious show in town, and that for over a millennium thereafter exercised the power that came from this position, and asserted it and dealt with any and all enemies - whether real or imagined - in a gruesome manner. In fact if you want to examine the history of Christianity in a serious way, one of the problems that you encounter is what to make of the piles of corpses.
I agree that garfield has an inelegant bogan style of expressing himself. It's the belligerent style of a poster that desperately wants/needs to provoke and pick a fight. You stand a good chance of encountering it in a lot of pubs I could name. But to say he has no point is to practise denial.

Apparently the rabid Island of Dr Moreau pit bull x human being columnist experiment catherine deveny was attacked by the very same rapist but managed to escape, if only they could have battled it out for a bit longer deveny would have bitten off his cock and balls rendering him a further threat to no one.

You mean with expressions like "inchoate rage"? I'm rather proud of that one! I think the phrase is a first for NTB! Mind you a lot of what we read on these discussion boards is half-formed and half-baked so "inchoate" is right on the button. What else? "Simplistic reductionism"? Hmmm you might have a point there. If it's reductionist then it's bound to be simplistic so I might have been guilty of a bit of tautology with that one. "piles of corpses" - I like that one! But yeah there might have been a bit of bombast creeping in. But hey, this is NTB! If you can't be bombastic on NTB where the hall can you be bombastic!

30,000 words?
Most people only use 10,000 in everyday life, even though there are around 500,000 words in the English language.

That is just English. I am about to read Anna Karenina in Russian. My German is well enunciated and so too is my Spanish. The Persians and Afghans are convinced I lived there, and the French like the way I speak their language. Then there are the Zulu and Matabele who gave me a Zulu name and consider me a white brother. I wish I had multilinguil talents like yourself Buzzock. Alas I speak Australian and that, apart from hand signals and a series of grunts, is the extent of my communicative prowess. I'm enjoying reading the posts by yourself and Pim, it's great to see some well worded discussion on a forum.

Jesus Saves, I read in an article recently that a vocabulary of 10,000 words (along with grammatical understanding) should enable primitive social interaction within most languages around the world. Now this left me scratching my head as I thought 10,000 words would be bordering on fluency so, after chatting with Mrs Volk about this, she emabarked upon a quest to find out how many recognised words there are in the English language. This returned an answer of just over one million, around 1.02 million I think it was! I'm sorry but I can't quote the source. (My apologies for the thread hijack.)

Gotta love Buzz's bombast! ;D Must be why I often enjoy Buzz's posts. Also Buzz! Von einem deutschsprechenden Bombast zu einem anderen ... du sprichst Deutsch?? Was eine Überraschung! Et tu parles français?? Ça alors! Comment ça se fait? On pourrait faire la causette en français si tu veux. Maar je spreekt geen nederlands, geloof ik. From one bombast to another ... I say that in a spirit of bombastic solidarity. We bombasts need to stick together
