Room temps a bit of a myth, but the Poms et al sure know how to make a great brew

Pommy beer? Yuk. Flat!
German, Belgian and Dutch for me - if foreign - but in my fridge you will find Boags and James Squire.

I prefer a good red, the alcohol content is higher.

Speight's is better than anything Australia brews. Speights, like Tui, is mass-produced beer.
Although Speights originates in Dunedin (where the Speights brewery is still producing the stuff) the vast majority amount of Speights is mass-produced in Auckland. It's the same with Tui....the iconic Tui Brewery is still in Mangatainoka in northern Wairarapa, but most of the stuff is mass-brewed in Auckland.
While both Speights and Tui are a reasonable drop on a hot day, they are rubbish in comparison with the many boutique beers brewed in small craft breweries around NZ. I imagine the same situation applies in Australia.

Tried them all and it's Tooheys Draught that beats them all.
China's Lucky Beer is a excellent enlightened brew, and the green buddha bottles make great vases.
Mudgee's organic wines are a good tipple.

I have had a few good NZ Sav Blancs..and plenty of very ordinary ones. It seems the market here is flooded with them. Sav Blanc grapes require a cool/colder climate...a bit of a rarity in most of our wine growing regions. One of the better Aussie SBs I have had comes from Orange. Gets pretty frosty up there!

and don't the poms etc drink it at room temp? That is just weird. They do! I've had it ... warm, flat. Yuk. I guess on a freezing day, the Poms don't like drinking anything cold. My friend drinks Corona but then she's South American. I quite like it, but prefer Crownies. As for wine ... it's full of preservatives and that tends to give people lots of headaches. And some of it tastes like vinegar ... ugh.

I 'tasted' a glass of still ale from the West Country..the smell made me dry retch.. It reminded me of the dregs left in the bottles next morning after a party on a hot night....
